There has been a ton of discussion lately about the “pink slime” that has been found to be a main ingredient in a wide variety of meat products – from ground beef from the supermarket to chicken patties from fast food joints. It’s not surprising that more people are starting to question what is really in the food they are buying. Of course, going to organic and natural products is one way to put those worries to rest.
Applegate Farms is a brand that offers organic and natural meat products that can be found in grocery stores such as Kroger or Whole Foods. We recently had the opportunity to taste test their new natural chicken nuggets product. Ryan and I neither one are big chicken nugget fans, but our niece and nephew are. So, one day when our 5 year old niece and 2 year old were over, we threw them in the oven for a quick and easy lunch. A few days later when we watched my niece again, she asked if we had any left because she wanted to eat them again. While our nephew didn’t give us his thoughts on the nuggets, he did eat them without complaint even though he’s a very fussy eater. So the nuggets definitely get a big thumbs up from both the kids. For parents or those who take care of children, it’s nice to have a quick, convenient organic meal. These take about 12 minutes in the oven which makes them great for a busy weekday dinner or an after school snack for teens. The nuggets come in a large family sized bag, so it’s nice that the bag is resealable seems how the product likely won’t be used up in a single meal. Applegate farms offers other frozen products such as chicken strips and beef burgers as well as non frozen items like hot dogs, sausage, cheese and more.
