I’ve been couponing since last June and I feel like I’m pretty successful at it now, but it took several months to really get a grasp on the game. For the first few months I felt like a complete failure, and then around September I started FINALLY seeing food coupons and that was when I saw more success. I later had people tell me that it wasn’t my fault, that there are simply not a whole lot of food coupons during the summer, which makes it harder to coupon. Last summer, I remember getting good deals on hot dogs, condiments, smoked sausage, hamburger buns and other BBQ type foods but barely seeing any for “regular” food like pasta, crackers, canned soup, vegetables, hamburger helper, zatarains etc.
So now that summer is only a few months away, I’ve been debating if I should stockpile more of the regular food we eat weekly, between now and June, so that I have enough to last through the summer? Which item(s) do you expect to have to stockpile in spring to last through summer, and which ones will be available at stockpile prices during the summer? I also didn’t start to truly memorize food prices until fall, so I’m wondering if the foods that I don’t see coupons for, that I buy on sale like ground beef, ham, chicken, milk, cheese and fresh produce will still be regularly found in the ads?

I stockpile staples when they are on sale. For the rest, I try to watch the sales and buy them then. Items go on sale on a more or less regular cycle,so if you can figure out how many weeks between sale times, buy enough to last until next time.
