Ryan and I both grew up in a very small, practically crime free town. Most people we know never lock their doors. So when we moved to a town that has a population that is more than 25 times greater than the population of “home” it was odd for us. The apartment complex we lived in was inside of a locked gated community, but the office building for the complex was outside of the gate, and was broken into twice in the 2 years that we lived there. While logically we knew that outsiders couldn’t get inside the gate without a code, and the main building required a key to enter, and our individual apartment also required a key to enter…it’s still a little scary to know that break in happens so close to our place.
Of course, some day we plan to have our own home which won’t be inside of a gated community, so a security system could help ease our anxieties. Using a system like the Total Connect allows you to be notified via smartphone if your front door is opened, if your liquor cabinet opens, if a flood is detected and more. You can even view live video feed from your phone, which would be great for parents who leave their children with babysitters or who are letting their older children stay home alone. You can also control your security system by your phone, choosing to turn it off and on, open and close garage doors and even turn on lights. Don’t have a smartphone? The home security store has a wide variety of other home security products that can help give you peace of mind.
