This time of year can be hard on us for many reasons; family drama, traveling and unhealthy foods just to name a few. To help keep you feeling your best, I would like to share 10 Nutrisystem tips for staying on track during the holidays.
Plan in advance. Before your festivities start, come-up with a game plan to stay on track. Plan to drink extra water, take small portions, only eat homemade foods, or stay away from the appetizers…whatever works for you…just have a plan and stick to it. I am going to prepare my Nutrisystem meals ahead of time and take them with me.
Stay on track. Don’t try to skip meals thinking you can save calories for a big splurge. Your body doesn’t work that way. Continue following your meal plan.
Set a goal. Remember why you are doing this. Don’t let the holidays derail your success. Maybe set a short term goal that ends right after the holidays and reward yourself with something from your wish-list.
Drink smart. Festive drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic as well) are loaded with calories. Plus if you have a few that are alcoholic, they may alter your willpower and lead you to make other poor diet choices. We will be celebrating with multiple families this year. I am sure there will be a variety of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. This year, I will be going fully prepared with a full water bottle and some slices of lime.
Trim the calories. If you are preparing a dish or two for a gathering, why not make them healthy. You can always substitute applesauce in place of fats in baked goods, sugar substitute for sugar, egg substitute for whole eggs, whole milk with 1% or fat free, and yogurt for sour cream.
Enlist support. Ask your family and friends to help you out. You can also log-on to Nutrisystem and chat with others who are on the same journey as you. What a great way to share your tips and learn a few new ones.
Keep moving. After eating, why not suggest a family walk or a get-up-and-move kind of a game. On days when I know it’s going to be tough for me to get in an actual workout, I make sure I wear ankle weights. For me, it’s an easy way to burn a few extra calories.
Quality not Quantity. If you are going to join in the holiday meals try sticking to appropriate portions-
- Turkey—3 oz. white meat, no skin (about the size of a deck of cards)
- Mashed potatoes—1/3 cup (about the size of half of a baseball)
- Gravy—1 Tbsp. (just drizzle it)
- Relish made with sugar—1 Tbsp.
- Stuffing—2 Tbsp.
- Dinner Roll—if not homemade, skip it
- Pie—1/12 of a 9” pie
Eat before you go. You can always enjoy your Nutrisystem food items before you leave for your holiday event. This will ensure you are eating healthy foods and will reduce the chance of you filling up on unhealthy options.
Embrace the holiday spirit. Remember the reason for the season; it’s spending time with your family and friends.
Update- This week I get to factor PMS into my measurements. I didn’t have any change in inches lost; I am currently at 21.5 inches. Although I didn’t lose inches, I did lose another pound bringing my weight loss total to 24.4 pounds in 13 weeks!
I wish you all a healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
