I was recently messaged by Jen, the woman who owns SweetestPie on Etsy. I clicked through her profile to view her etsy shop listings and immediately liked her items. She uses felt to make unique wall art that primarily features children, but in much more detail than you would expect to see in art that is created primarily with felt. Instead of being square and plain, her art uses carefully shaped pieces and lots of small details (like eyelashes, buttons, zippers, etc) to make the people in her pieces closely resemble the people they are inspired by.
My sister Jorden is 9 and from the time that she was just a toddler, she’s always had a style that is rather creative and very unique. She knows exactly what she likes and regularly surprises me with how wells he pulls of really unique styles. Her name also has a unique spelling, so I like to get gifts for her that are personalized with her names correct spelling. I thought it would be really neat to have Jen create a custom piece wall art for her that included her name and a “character” that looked like her.
Before Christmas, she had decided that she needed some silver high tops (REALLY high tops – higher than Converse high tops, for example) and asked for them for Christmas. She got them, and has been really impressed with them ever since. I have to admit that they are really cute on her.
My sisters hair is wet in this photo so it’s naturally lighter – a light to medium brown and her eyes are blue. I told Jen this and I also told her that she almost always wears a clip in one side of her hair. With that information, this is the wall art piece that she was able to create for me.
I really like it, especially her shoes. I feel like it does a really nice job of representing my sister and is so one of a kind. The piece is on stretched canvas so the silver background that you see here is pulled around the sides to the back, allowing this to be hung on the wall with a nail or push pin, without needing a frame. It has been treated with sealant so it is able to be cleaned and is more durable than untreated felt.
You can have a custom children’s wall art piece made for a child in your life for $20, making these an affordable gift and a super unique decorating idea as well.In addition to offering customized pieces, she has pre-made pieces that are really cute as well. Some of her pre-made pieces include cheerleaders, ballerinas and puppies.
