Several months ago I was browsing Pinterest when I saw a picture of a hanging photo that was made onto wood. You could see the grain of the wood in the lighter portions of the photo. I thought it looked so neat, but I had no idea how they had made it or where they had ordered it from. I mostly forgot about it until Woodsnap contacted me about this review. I was so excited to get a chance to make a Woodsnap of my own. I dug around trying to find a picture with lots of light color in it so that the grain of the wood could show through like it does on the Woodsnap below.
I wasn’t able to find one that I wanted to have made into a photo on wood so I just chose a picture I liked instead, which was this one. I didn’t have any photos of our hedgehog to hang on our walls, and I have several of Ryan and I so I thought this silly family photo would be a nice change.
Woodsnap offers a variety of sizes, starting at 8 by 8 (you can even use instagram photos for this size!) all the way up to 30 by 40. Ours is 11 by 14 which seems like a great size to hang just about anywhere. It would work in a living room, kitchen or bedroom really nicely.
Seems how the photo that I used didn’t have a lot of light coloring, you can’t see the grain of the wood very much – which is a great option for people who prefer not to see the wood underneath. I think that my Woodsnap has a slight yellowish tint to it when compared with the original photo, so if yo want to avoid this, consider using a photo editing program that has an automatic white corrector function to make your photo true to color before sending it to Woodsnap. I was a bit surprised at how the wood is relatively thin. In the back, the wood narrows down at an angle, so the top of the Woodsnap is quite thin (so it won’t collect dust!) and it tapers down in size in the back.
It has two indents (one running in each direction) on the back so that you can hand the piece horizontally or vertically. Woodsnaps even come with screws. I didn’t have a good SDS drill the day it came, so I use hung two pushpins in the wall at the same height and was able to slide the Woodsnap sideways over them. The pushpins were the perfect size to fall into the slot in the back of the Woodsnap, so they are really easy to hang regardless of whether you use a screw or a pushpins.
Woodsnap uses a unique process when creating their pieces that makes the wood water and temperature resistant so you can use water to clean your piece and don’t have to worry about the wood being altered because of high temperatures or humidity.
Rustic weddings and home decor seems to be popular right now, and Woodsnaps would be a great addition to a rustic themed home, den or cabin. They would also make a great wedding keepsake or wedding gift for a couple who had a rustic wedding, or to celebrate a big event like a new baby. Of course, “just because” is a great reason too. The 11″ by 14″ that I reviewed costs $59.95. Their smallest size, 8″ by 8″ sells for $39.99 and their largest size, 30″ by 40″ is $329.95.
