This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Kmart Share the Word for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
Last month my boyfriend & I moved into a new apartment together. This is the first time that we’ve rented a home as opposed to being in an apartment complex. There are a lot of benefits of living in a duplex – things like having a yard, more room in the apartment itself, only having one neighbor as opposed to 10+, more parking space, etc. However, we now have higher monthly bills than we’ve had before as well. So for us we’ve taken long looks at our income, expenses and budget in order to make things work for us.
The last time that we discussed our bills, Ryan said that he liked how well we handle our finances – that he thinks its rare for couples ot not argue about money often. We both know lots of couples who struggle to communicate and make decisions around their finances and I think that often times, not discussing finances or a budget further complicates the problem because if you don’t know where you stand financially, how can you know if you have money to spend or how much you have to spend? So then you buy things you can’t afford and a few days later are surprised when there isn’t enough money to cover the bills.

In addition to talking about finances, I think its really important to learn about budgeting and finances. Kmart has created the Share the Word program which is designed to help empower people to understand their finances and get in control of them.
Their program is available online – you can check it out here. http://kmrt.us/LRWIw3
The program is designed with help from Glinda Bridgforth, a financial coach and author. She is an african american and her program was created to honor the african american legacy and provide empowering resources to Kmart customers. The guide includes family budgeting, savings tips and advice for how to take control of your finances. If you feel like you’re drowning in bills or strugglnig to keep your finances in order, be sure to check it out.

I find it interesting that Kmart would get into this field. I hope it will be a great help to people.

Wow! I would have not thought of the pairing of a retailer and financial advisor. It will be interesting to see what the program is like.

I’ve never heard of Kmart’s affiliation with this program and it’s been a couple years now. I wonder how successful the program has been and if they’ll consider branching out. Time to look it up.

Financial education is really important that everyone must learn to have a stable financial freedom.

We’re not at the house part yet, but we’re getting there. We just renewed our lease for hopefully the last time in this complex. Because we’ve been budgeting and managing finances we’ve gotten ahead. Thanks for telling me about this program. I’ll check it out!
