More and more people are thinking of new ways of storing their stuff. Functional storage is the order of the day.
It’s about coming up with brand new ways of storing items creatively. Attaching small cupboards and holes to the wall is a great way of maximizing available space.
You can make this stylish, as well. One option is to color coordinate what you store in each hole so it creates a spectrum of color across the wall. For smaller items, this can make it look like you have a paint palette on your wall.
The best part about functional storage is you don’t need to be a professional. As long as you can put together a basic cupboard, you can come up with your own ideas and experiment.
Stripes
Vibrancy and energetic living is a major trend within the world of home décor at the moment. Reflect this on your walls.
Come up with ways of incorporating sections of bold patterns for your walls. Here are just a few ideas:
Stripy wallpaper with contrasting colors. It works best if you apply it to a single wall to create a focal point.
Canvas prints with a stripy pattern. Ideal if you want to do it in smaller sections.
If you’re artistically inclined, try drawing some stripy patterns on the wall yourself.
African Influence
A rather unexpected fashion statement found in villas across the world is the influence of Africa. Africana was once big across the world. Animal furs and patterns were big business. Until now, it was seen as quite tacky.
The influence of Africana has returned in a different light. It incorporates warm wall colors of chocolate and white. In places, add an animal pattern, such as that of a zebra.
If you do opt for Africana, make sure the rest of your room matches the walls. You have to do this or it simply won’t work.
Before you start redecorating, take into account how trends move. Avoid incorporating too many trends or you’ll soon find your room out of fashion.
The most intelligent designers bring together different aspects of timeless décor and current trends. This way the room has more longevity and a more unique look to it. Overall, it’s about experimentation and being willing to fail. None of these options have to cost you a lot of money.
