Some of my friends who have kids talk about how they miss being able to just go out for the night when life is stressful. I’ve never been one to enjoy parties much, but I understand why they tend to feel like they need to get out of the house to relax. I don’t have kids at home to “tie me” to the house, but I often opt for relaxing at home instead of going out to save money. Here are my 5 ways to relax without leaving the house.
1. Movie night! Curling up on the couch with my boyfriend, some popcorn and a lighthearted or really engaging movie is a great way for me to reset. Movies are great distractions from the stress of daily life and spending time with my boyfriend helps us feel connected again which gives my mood a huge boost.
2. Take a bath. I really wish my current apartment had a tub instead of just a stand up shower. When I get so stressed that I start having shoulder, neck and/or back pain, nothing de-stresses me like a hot bubble bath.
3. A good book. Like movies, books can be a great distraction. Combine with idea #2 for a double-destresser.
4. Cleaning. Sometimes cleaning is a great way to think while also being productive. Plus, when you’re done your house is clean which is a mood-lifter in itself.
5. Free-to-play games. I rarely feel like giving up enough time to play a full video game on a PC or a console. I love playing games on a phone or tablet. Casual games can usually be played for just a few minutes at a time and then picked back up later on. My favorite recently is The SecretSociety – Hidden Mystery which is a hidden-object game. I’ve always loved puzzle games but most casual games only include one type of puzzle. The SecretSociety Hidden Mystery combines I-spy, gem match puzzles, brain teasers and memory games. The variety keeps the game feeling fresh even after hours of game-play. It’s free to play and is available on iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Fire phone and Mac.
