*I was provided with a cabbage patch hat wig in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
Most of the baby girls in my family are born bald and often have very little hair up until two or two and a half. I was born in June, so the fact that it’s really snowy in this picture would make me guess that I am somewhere between 18-21 months in this picture.
When we found out that my sister Erica (who also was late to get hair) was expecting a baby girl we started wondering if she would have hair as well. She is now 17.5 months and she has more hair than I did at her age, but it’s still only enough to put into a “pebbles” (from Flintstones) style ponytail on top of her head. When Erica was still pregnant with Kelsie I saw a picture of an adorable crocheted hat that almost doubled as a pretend-wig in that it made the wearer appear to have long hair. I thought it would be a funny baby shower gift but the link on the pin was broken. I forgot about the hair wigs until recently. The Etsy shop Crocheted By Catherine makes these “cabbage patch” crocheted hat wigs. Even though Kelsie now has a bit of hair, I still had to get her one to try.
Catherine can make the Cabbage Patch Hat Wig in any size (baby to adult) and you can choose which color of yarn to use for the “hair” as well as the bow color. It’s best to order the size you think you will need, but the toddler sized hat that I requested fits a wide range of sizes. They are designed to look like hair, so the shape of the hat is wider and more shallow than a traditional winter hat would be (it doesn’t come down to cover the ears). I can get it on my head but it doesn’t come down to fully cover my head. It fits Kelsie great as it covers exactly where her hairline is. It also fits Drew (age 4) well.
My camera doesn’t take action shots very well and Kelsie is an endless stream of motion while awake so I had to take pictures while she was sleeping. But, you can see adorable she is in this hat.
Being a cabbage patch doll with one of these hats would also be a great Halloween costume idea. Here in Michigan it’s usually really cold by Halloween so it would be great for younger kids because they could wear their normal clothing or a pair of bib overalls and keep warm while trick or treating. At just $18, they would be a really affordable costume too!
Crocheted By Catherine makes a variety of other crocheted hats and goodies. Some of my favorites are pictured below. Check out Crocheted By Catherine the next time you need a crocheted gift. Her prices are very reasonable.

I also thought this wig would make an awesome Halloween costume. I was born with little hair too and still have thin blonde hair. My head gets cold and imagine little kids also would be chilly but this would really warm them up.
thank you I have been thinking on making this I pinned it so I could remember– it is so cute
