Living in the midwest means tough winters. My mom owns a 100+ year old farmhouse that left the upstairs portion of the house (my bedroom & my sisters bedroom) too chilly. My dad moved a lot when I was a kid but lived in a lot of mobile homes. They usually had the furnace in the center of the trailer – typically near the bathroom. It was so nice to step out of a shower in the winter and be warm but the rooms on either end of the trailer would stay chilly.
Now that I’ve had a few apartments of my own, I face similar uneven heating issues. In my current apartment we have electric heat with radiators along one or two walls in the two bedrooms and the living room. The bathroom and the kitchen don’t have radiators so we rely on the rooms next to them to keep them warm. This works fine for the kitchen which is sandwiched between a bedroom and living room with a heater but the bathroom is on the end of the house so last winter we had frozen pipes multiple times. It was so frustrating.
We’ve been considering trying a console heater and the Holmes® Smart Console Heater sounds really nice.
Plus, you can control the heater using a smartphone or tablet with the WeMo App so you can adjust the settings even if you aren’t home. So you could turn it on a little bit before you get home so that the house is warm by the time you get home but you aren’t wasting energy all day long while you’re gone which can potentially save you money.
If you have a cold basement, you can leave the Holmes® Smart Console Heater down there to control the humidity and temperature of your basement without having to go downstairs. You could do the same thing for your attic!
