Thank you BattleFrog for sponsoring this blog post. All opinions are my own.
For the last few years I’ve noticed an increase in unique race events around the country. While most of us know that running and exercising regularly are great for our health, it can be easier to get motivated to exercise when it feels fun. BattleFrog is a unique race that was designed by U.S Navy Seals and is making a tour around the country this spring and summer.
Instead of being a simple race, BattleFrog races include obstacle courses, with different races available including special races for children based on their age. For example, there will be a TadPole Dash for kids ages 4-8 years old, which has 8+ obstacles over the 400 meter distance and will let your kids get muddy while having fun and getting exercise! Navy SEALs will be running the race with the kids to help motivate and entertain them. Plus, they’ll be available to help kids if they get stuck on an obstacle.
For older kids ages 8-14 there is the BullFrog Mile which is a mile long run with at least 10 obstacles that introduce kids to mud crawls, climbing walls, slip and slides and more.
One year during our school track and field day it rained really hard, but wasn’t storming so the school decided to let us run in the rain. The field inside the track got really muddy and we wound up a complete mess but even after our races were over we were all sliding around in the mud getting more exercise than we would have otherwise. I still reflect on that track and field day as a special event from school, and it stands out to me way more than any other year of track and field even though we had the event each year. I love how the BattleFrog races are using mud and obstacles to make running and exercise more exciting for kids (and adults!).
The June 21st event is at the following address:
Old Bridge Township Raceway Park Inc
230 Pension Rd.
Englishtown, NJ 07726
However, if you aren’t in or around that area check out the BattleFrog website to find details for other BattleFrog races to find one closer to you. Also check out the BattleFrog website for more details about the races available for each age group, there are several more than the few that I mentioned. You know the only thing about those mud races that just doesn’t sit well for me is the potential for open cuts and scrapes to get infected. Blame it on the nurse in me and reading too many MRSA horror stories. It has happened though and I would totally be the one falling and cutting or scraping something. I’m a safety freak though but they do look like a fun time!
