Ryan has lost over 45 pounds since July. I’ve noticed that a lot of people ask him what his ‘secret’ was, or will say things like they wish they could do the same, etc. I was recently thinking about how so many people resolve to lose weight on new years eve and only a portion follow through. I’ve asked Ryan what has made him stick to his plan, or what has helped him to be successful. His answer was basically “I was really ready to make a change.”

His answer has got me thinking about how changing ourselves really is just a choice. We chose what to eat everyday, whether or not to exercise, what to wear and so much more. For Ryan, the “secret” to weight-loss has really just been making good food and exercise choices on a consistent basis, and that ‘secret’ would work for anyone else if they really stuck to that commitment. I’m not sure that everyone realizes that they really DO have the power to change not just their weight but so many other aspects of their lives by just truly committing to making the same positive choices day in and day out. For Ryan his choice was to improve his health and because that was an important goal for him, it’s made him happy along the way. For Ryan, the formula to happiness was committing to eating healthier and exercising so he was happier with his health and appearance.

formula for happiness

As we move towards 2016 and you consider your resolutions, my advice is not just think about what you want to improve your life, but why. Do you want to get your home organized so you have less chaos in your day-to-day life? Do you want to improve your credit so you can get approved for a home-loan? Maybe you want to cut out GMO’s from your diet so you feel better about what you’re putting in your body? Regardless of your goal, focusing on the WHY instead of the what can give you the motivation to keep going. If your ‘why’ involves making your life happier, remembering that drive can give you the strength to continue when you are feeling uninspired.

If your goal is to cut out GMO’s and you’re using baby or toddler formula, check out Gerber® Good Start®. Gerber changed their Gerber formulas to Non-GMO formula. The NON-GMO formula change was Gerber’s response to many parents wanting a GMO-free option for their babies. For many parents, being choosy about what their little ones are consuming can put their mind at ease, making it a formula for their happiness. The entire line of Gerber infant formulas are now available GMO-free, so whether your baby does best on base formula, a soy or tolerance option, etc you can find a Gerber® Good Start® formula option for your little one. This is great news for babies like Royce who don’t tolerate dairy very well.

What is your personal formula for happiness? How are you going to work towards your happiness goals in 2016?

Great progress pics of Ryan and I see the pouch wants to get in on the profile pictures as well! I’m going more for the healthy goal rather than the happiness goal next year. I tend to cheat myself on sleep and working on treating myself a bit better so I’m not so cranky, in turn happier I suppose.

Congrats to Ryan on the weight loss! I have given up on resolutions or “new me” plans. If I can do one lifestyle change and make it stick, then I think I am successful.

Great progress. My formula of happiness — more sleep, better quality of food and wiser food choices, more active life style — we’ll see how it will be in a new year
