This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of BlogPaws Pet Influencer Network. The opinions and text are all mine.
This post is sponsored by Hill’s Pet and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I have been selected as a Sponsored Blogger to attend the BlogPaws 2016 Conference on behalf of Hill’s however we only work with brands we love. BlogPaws and my Sponsor are not responsible for the content of this article.
I got home from BlogPaws about a day and a half ago and I’m still settling in. It was such a long and eventful week for me! It was a fun and unique experience but I’m happy to be back at home with my pugs now. I will be doing a full BlogPaws recap for you guys in the near future. For now I want to share with you what my BlogPaws sponsor, Hill’s Pet did during as part of the BlogPaws conference.
Hill’s Pet was a BlogPaws sponsor, so they had a booth set up in the exhibit hall. Hill’s Pet is a well-known pet food company, but their booth focused on the Hill’s Food, Love & Shelter program instead of their products. I have written about How To Be #PetPrepared in the past. It’s important to have a pet go-kit made so that if you and your pets need to evacuate your home because of an emergency or disaster, you can quickly leave with your pet.
The Hill’s Food, Love & Shelter program provides food to areas that experience emergencies and disasters such as wildfires, floods or tornadoes. Sometimes Hill’s provides food to shelters or other areas that are temporarily caring for displaced pets. I can only imagine how stressful it must be for shelters and humane societies to take on the large amount of care needed for pets when a disaster strikes the area. Plus, in situations where the owners are able to keep their pet with them, like they have a relative who their family and pet can stay with, they provide small bags of pet food to shelters to hand out to individual families so that they can feed their pet. This is a wonderful service because it’s better for the local shelters and humane societies AND the families and pets if the animal is able to remain with their family.
During BlogPaws Hill’s was sharing information about their Food, Love & Shelter program and information about being #PetPrepared at the booth. They had informational cards, t-shirts, pins and other swag that they handed out as bloggers stopped by to chat about the program. They also had an area to showcase some of the newly released Hill’s products.
As I made friends during the conference I had some of them go with me to the Hill’s booth to take selfies with them or their pets to help spread the word on social media.

On the last day of the conference Hill’s had a VIP lunch that I was invited to. The Hill’s representative showed us some Hill’s videos that were heartwarming and sweet. One was a really new release so we were among some of the first people to see it! They had someone from the Arizona Humane Society talk to us about how their program works to help pets in Arizona as well as some ways to be #PetPrepared for a house fire or evacuation. Some of the important advice we were given included having your pet micro-chipped! She said that they often have stray or even deceased pets turned in (or reported and picked up) only to be unable to find the owner. Having your pet micro-chipped is the best way to increase the odds of your pet making its way back home to you if it gets lost and then found by another person. We were also told that the placement of pet emergency stickers is important. If your house catches fire or is evacuated and your sticker announcing that you have pets is located on a window or low on the door the policemen or firemen might enter your home without seeing the sticker. Having a large sticker at roughly eye level on your primary door is best!
After the lunch we were able to go outside and see the transport vehicle that Arizona Humane Society uses to transport pets! While heading outside we passed by stacks of boxes that Hill’s was donating to the Arizona Humane Society. There is a wildfire going on in Arizona, so some families have been evacuated and there are needy families and pets in the area so Hill’s helped out! It was really nice to see the result the Food, love & shelter program in action.

Having an emergency kit for your pets is a great idea, especially if you have to leave your home in a hurry. It’s nice to see BlogPaws also helped to support local shelters. Shelter pets are the best.

Wow! That sounds like quite an event! I really love every how brands are starting involve bloggers at these informational conferences. I am so happy they’re so involved in working with and giving to animal shelters and rescue organizations.

What a wonderful event and an amazing cause. I agree that all pets should be microchipped since I know my heart would be broken if I ever lost my little guy.

It’s awesome that they are donating so much to the humane society when they really need it. Hill’s sounds like an awesome brand!

I admire organizations that help out animals especially in time of natural disasters! It’s really nice to know that there are people who are willing to extend their help.

I’d never heard of this company before, but it sounds like they do some great things!

Hill’s has been on a roll lately. I’ve seen them do a lot for pets, dogs in particular from what I’ve seen, and I’m in deep awe and respect for those who are all engaged in humanitarian services for animals.

I have thought of micro-chipping my pet in case he gets lost, but I am a little nervous about it.

I have always loved Hills and I love that they have this program. There are always animals in need so the more companies that are doing something to help, the better!

Anything these companies can do to help is so appreciated I’m sure. It makes me so sad to see the flooding and fires we’ve had lately here in California and West Virginia, where pets and livestock don’t always make it out alive. I do hope more people take notice to prepare their pets for emergencies.

I love the program to help remind us that our pets need to have a plan too for moving them. It sounds like there were many great things to see there too.
