I partnered with Johnsonville on this post. I was provided product coupons and compensation. All opinions are my own.
About a year ago I started focusing on my health and began counting calories. I knew that protein was important for helping me feel full, so I sought out low-calorie protein options. I read that turkey and chicken are great lower-calorie alternatives for beef and pork. The next time we bought groceries I bought a few varieties of turkey products in an attempt to make the switch. I was really disheartened when I realized how bland the items I purchased were. I knew I wouldn’t be able to sustain this swap because it just didn’t taste very good.
A month or so later I read that Johnsonville’s turkey sausage products have more flavor than other brands. I decided to try the turkey thing again, purchasing Johnsonville brand this time. I’m so glad I did, because we’ve successfully swapped to turkey and the taste is great. Johnsonville flavors its turkey sausage in a way that makes it not bland at all. We buy the pre-cooked turkey sausage links all the time, and last week we saw they now have pre-cooked patties. We bought those for the first time this week and they taste really similar to the links, they’re just in patty form instead. The links are just 70 calories per 2 links, while the patties are 110 calories per 2 patties. Both products are designed to be microwaved for really quick and easy breakfasts, but we both like well-done (aka mildly burnt) meat so we fry them (in a non-stick pan without oil) instead and that works great as well.
Seems how we’ve fallen in love with Johnsonville’s turkey products, I was excited to hear that Johnsonville came out with its very first chicken product! Johnsonville’s new chicken kabobs are available in four varieties all of which are pre-seasoned. Johnsonville Chicken Kabob’s come in Lemon & Herb, teriyaki, Sweet BBQ, and Sweet Chili Lime varieties. We decided to try the Lemon & Herb chicken kabobs. In my store (Meijer) they were located below the deli counter. They come in a wrapped up foam container, but inside each kabob is wrapped in its own bubble of plastic which keeps the marinade/seasoning juices up against each kabob. The kabobs come 4 to a package and each kabob is just 90 calories.
The package includes instructions for cooking the kabobs on a traditional grill, electric contact grill or an oven. We don’t currently own a grill (though it’s at the very top of our wish list!) so we cooked ours in the oven. They recommend cooking for 13-15 minutes at 425 degrees.
When finished the kabobs were nice and juicy. The lemon flavoring was easy to pick up and the texture of the meat was nice. I have an aversion for fatty meat, or even dark portions of chicken, so I loved how it was moist white meat throughout.
Cooking the kabobs was so easy, just removing them from the package, tossing them onto a baking sheet with tin foil and leaving them in the oven for about 15 minutes. I paired with a can of veggies and watermelon for a quick and easy dinner. I thought it was perfect for a summer dinner. In the summer I tend to avoid meals that take a long time to cook because they get my kitchen too hot. Johnsonville Chicken Kabobs let us have a warm, convenient dinner without spending too much time in the kitchen.
Buy it: You can find Johnsonville Chicken Kabobs in a wide range of grocery stores. In my store they were in front of the deli counter, not in the regular meat case.

Great recommendation. I’m sure a lot of us would like to find this at the closest deli counter. I know that the kabobs are the meat of this post but boy, those turkey breakfast sausages look really tasty.

It’s always nice when you find alternatives to old favorites. I prefer eating healthy as well and I have for the past years and I look forward to finding healthy alternatives to what I used to enjoy before I switched to a healthier lifestyle. I’m sure the kabobs taste awesome!

The kabobs look so tasty. I’ve seen this around, but I haven’t tried it. I’ve been eating healthy for almost a year now and I always prepare the food that I eat, so I know what goes into it. I would love to try this.

Yum! These chicken kabobs sound delicious, I am the same way with fatty/dark chicken meat so I love that it’s all white meat! I was actually introduced to turkey bacon by my husband when we first met, and I honestly like it way more than traditional bacon! Johnsonville definitely makes the best turkey products, I can’t wait to try these kabobs! Thank for sharing. 🙂

I didn’t know Johnsonville carried chicken. These seem like a quick and easy way to make a delicious dinner or lunch. I bet they would taste amazing in a salad.
