Everyone has a little geek in them. Maybe you love reading so much that you lose track of time, or perhaps you love superheroes (just a little more than your kids do). Whatever you’re passionate about, you love it and the way it makes you feel and that’s what makes it special to you. My boyfriend and I are pretty passionate about a lot of similar things. We love watching the latest superhero movies, going shopping for collectibles, and we even play video games together. We both have our own things we like to do but it’s awesome when you can bond together, too.

That’s exactly why I was extremely excited to partner with 1UP Box for this review. Having this box makes it easier for us to find cool new items to bond over and collect. 1UP Box is a geek/gamer subscription service that’s themed monthly with 5-8 mystery items inside. The box is $12.92 a month plus $7 shipping and handling. With holiday season rolling around, it’s never too early to shop. I think kids and even adults would love this box – it’s the perfect mix of items for everyone!

I am reviewing the August 2016 1UP box – the theme is speed! Each box comes with an information card to tell you a little bit about everything inside.

Monthly Pin

The first thing in the box is the 1Up Box monthly themed pin. Every month there is always a pin relating to the theme. This month was themed speed, so it’s completely fitting that the picture references Mario Kart! I know 1Up Box just started implementing cute characters in their boxes to depict the different references – the panda is one of them. I love this pin though, it’s super cute! My boyfriend even wants to put it on his leather jacket. I think the pin is a great little thing to remember your boxes with.

Hedgehog Patch

Next in the box, we have a Sonic the Hedgehog patch. Sonic is the face of speed, so I’m not surprised to see him in here! This patch is actually iron-on so you don’t have to sew it yourself. I think that’s great because it makes it a little easier on everyone, especially if you don’t know how to sew. I think this would look great on a jacket or a hat.

Super Speed Mini Lanyard

Up next, we have a Super Speed mini lanyard. This little guy has the Flash on it – another huge character known for his speed. While I wish this lanyard was full sized, I still think it’s too cute. I already have this on my keys along with the rest of my sports and superhero keychains! This is great for attaching onto your keys or maybe even your kid’s backpack.

Random Colored Yoshi Plush

One of the first things I noticed when opening the box, was this brightly colored Yoshi plush! You could of gotten 1 out of 5 different colors – I got the blue one. I love the fact that there were different color variants, it makes the item much more fun to get. The colors are vibrant and he’s super soft. This is a cute collectible for anybody that likes Nintendo. Yoshi is going to be an adorable display for our bedroom!

Winged Necklace

This necklace is inspired by the golden snitch from Harry Potter! Although it’s not golden, it’s very accurate and a beautiful piece for any Harry Potter fan. The wings are detailed and the chain is long enough to be a great standout piece for any outfit. The middle part of the snitch is even a bell! Getting a necklace in this kind of box is great because you can tell they put in a lot of effort making sure there are things for both boys and girls.

“PokeRun” Exclusive T-Shirt

Finally, my favorite part of the box was getting this exclusive t-shirt. Every month there is a new t-shirt specifically made for the theme of the box. I really love this one because it has both Pokémon and Flash references! I think it’s even better that Pikachu is dressed up as Flash. The t-shirt is extremely soft and feels like great quality. With the whole Pokémon craze, I think this was a great choice for design. The value for it is worth the box alone.

Overall, I’d say this was a nice box! While the information card doesn’t give the value for any of the items, I’d say it did pretty well with how cheap the box was. There are many other subscription boxes out there that cost a lot but this one stays on the less expensive side and still manages to give out great items. This month’s box seemed to be more for kids, but my boyfriend and I will use everything in here whether it be for display, or for actual use or wear.
