Notorious abc

Last night was the premier of a new crime & legal drama on ABC called Notorious. I was able to watch the episode and it really caught my attention. My dad really likes crime dramas that follow cops and prosecutors around trying to find out who did it. I sometimes get interested when watching those types of shows at his house, but they don’t stand out to me enough to be something I intentionally try to schedule to watch at my house. I am interested in dramas, for the most part. However, I’m pretty picky about what I watch because some dramas seem like they are just out to shock you and that can seem unrealistic and fake which I don’t care for. I’m not as interested in drama in general as I am in people and how they face challenges, as well as how they interact with others. I like shows that are able to cast characters who seem realistic because they have good flaws and bad, and they face tough ethical dilemmas that don’t have a clear right or wrong answer.

From the first episode, that seems to be exactly what Notorious is setting up. It’s about the “Notorious duo” Jake and Julia. Julia is a top rated investigative news reporter, while Jake is a high powered lawyer. The show involves ethical dilemmas and crime, but (at least in my view) the heart of the story comes back to the relationship between Jake, Julia and the rest of their crew. I found Jake and Julia both likable, but also very human and flawed. There is no obvious ‘good guy’ or ‘bad’ guy’ in the show in general, instead it’s about having to make more realistic choices between the shades of grey. So while I’m not a crime-drama person, this show has really captured my attention. I am really eager to see what happens next.

While the show isn’t political in nature, it reminds me of some political dramas I watch, just a little bit because so much of it is based around the current news of the day, and how to produce the news. While it’s obviously a fictional story that has been dramatized, it’s interesting to think about news from the other side of the desk, so to speak.

Here are two quick teasers:

Did you catch the first episode of Notorious last night? I’d love to hear your reaction.
