Last night was the premier of a new crime & legal drama on ABC called Notorious. I was able to watch the episode and it really caught my attention. My dad really likes crime dramas that follow cops and prosecutors around trying to find out who did it. I sometimes get interested when watching those types of shows at his house, but they don’t stand out to me enough to be something I intentionally try to schedule to watch at my house. I am interested in dramas, for the most part. However, I’m pretty picky about what I watch because some dramas seem like they are just out to shock you and that can seem unrealistic and fake which I don’t care for. I’m not as interested in drama in general as I am in people and how they face challenges, as well as how they interact with others. I like shows that are able to cast characters who seem realistic because they have good flaws and bad, and they face tough ethical dilemmas that don’t have a clear right or wrong answer.
From the first episode, that seems to be exactly what Notorious is setting up. It’s about the “Notorious duo” Jake and Julia. Julia is a top rated investigative news reporter, while Jake is a high powered lawyer. The show involves ethical dilemmas and crime, but (at least in my view) the heart of the story comes back to the relationship between Jake, Julia and the rest of their crew. I found Jake and Julia both likable, but also very human and flawed. There is no obvious ‘good guy’ or ‘bad’ guy’ in the show in general, instead it’s about having to make more realistic choices between the shades of grey. So while I’m not a crime-drama person, this show has really captured my attention. I am really eager to see what happens next.
While the show isn’t political in nature, it reminds me of some political dramas I watch, just a little bit because so much of it is based around the current news of the day, and how to produce the news. While it’s obviously a fictional story that has been dramatized, it’s interesting to think about news from the other side of the desk, so to speak.
Here are two quick teasers:
Did you catch the first episode of Notorious last night? I’d love to hear your reaction.

I can’t wait to see this! I love shows that have no obvious “good” or “bad” characters. It’s so much more like real life like that.

This looks like a neat drama – I have never heard of it. We don’t really watch grown-up TV any more, I might catch a rom-com once in two years, otherwise it’s just toddlers and tweens, and cooking shows. I will probably end up binge-watching this show some time when the kids are at a camp or smth in 10 years! Thank you for letting me know about this one – sounds quite entertaining to my taste!

I’ll have to watch Notorious. I like real life shows with investigative reporting, so I would assume I would like a drama series with an investigative reporter. My hubby is a lawyer, so I better say that I like lawyers, too! lol

We missed it! Will check it out though. We have cable so it’s easy to check prime time shows. Both the hubs and I love watching crime shows.

Crime dramas have never interested me much, they need a really good hook to draw me in. I’ll check this one out and see what it has.

This looks like a series I would love. I’m a fan of Piper Perabo and love everything she’s been in.

I watched on Thursday – so far, I LOVE it! It’s so good! And I totally realized that Piper Perabo is Nora from Cheaper by the Dozen!!
-
I’ve always loved legal drama and I’m a fan of Piper Perabo. I watched the first episode and I liked it so I’m hoping it will turn out to be a good series.

I’m pretty sick of all the legal/crime dramas myself. I prefer shows that are less realistic like science fiction shows. But this seems like a great show for those who like that type of show.

When I see the name ‘Notorious’ it makes me think of Alfred Hitchcock’s version of the movie starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. That was an excellent movie.

This show looks really good! I have seen a few previews for it, but I am excited to start watching it. I love crime dramas.

Looks like a great show – I’m going to have to check it out! Thanks!
