I have been provided with a Nutrisystem plan in exchange for sharing my honest experience and results on my blog. All opinions are my own.

When Ryan first started Nutrisystem we were asked to make a specific weight goal. At that time, he said 50 pounds. It seemed like a really big goal. However, once he reached 50 pounds lost he realized he wasn’t yet where he wanted to be. He looked dramatically different, which he was happy about, but he realized he wanted to go smaller. He also was still not considered to be at a healthy BMI. We realized we weren’t really sure what his ideal weight actually is! Seems how fat and muscle carry differently, it doesn’t completely make sense to have a specific weight as your goal. For example, 180 pounds without much muscle can look bigger (and just generally less fit or healthy) than a muscular 180 pounds.

Around that 50 pound mark he thought going by clothing size would make more sense. He knew he wanted to lose one more pant size and one more shirt size. He’s now met those clothing goals! Since beginning Nutrisystem Ryan has lost three jean sizes and three shirt sizes. At least, in most brands. It’s so frustrating how there are different measurements of clothing that has the same tag size depending on the brand.

While Ryan has now hit the clothing size he was interested in, his goal now is to build muscle. He’s roughly the size he wants to be, but he wants to be this size in a fit shape. His legs and lower arms are showing significantly more muscle than he used to have. He’s working on targeting is thighs, upper arms and belly now in his workouts.

To those of you who have lost a significant amount of weight, did you ever get to a point where you realized seeking a certain number on the scale wasn’t really the answer? How did you define your weight loss or size goals if you weren’t after a specific number?

Goodness you can sure see a difference. I bet it has been like getting aa new hubby sometimes. I bet he feels better too.
I have lost weight , and I think it is besides clothing size, a feeling of how healthy you are. I mean, you sure arent going to feel 20 if youre 50 no matter what you do, but a little muscle goes a long way.
Ryan is making some fantastic strides!

Congratulations to Ryan! I remember once when I was going to a gym I used to think to myself I wanted to lose a certain amount of weight. Then I saw a before and after picture of a gal who put on over pounds and looked outrageously good – from weight training, and not all kinds of muscular, just really fit. That made me then and there just losing weight isn’t the answer, sometimes it just has to do with fitness or a combination.

Congrats Ryan, that’s a great accomplishment! I’ve always gone by clothing size and what the mirror shows, not by the weigh scale. A healthy rule of thumb is to lose weight so you look good in the mirror, not so that it hits a certain number on the scale. This means you can build muscle like Ryan wants to do, and even if the scale says a higher number than you want, the only thing that matters is what you see in the mirror!
