I am a Nutrisystem nation blogger. I am provided with a Nutrisystem meal plan in exchange for sharing regular updates. All opinions are my own.
Restaurants can be really tough to navigate when you’re trying to count calories. Nutrisystem has a restaurant guide which is a big help. However, we still try to avoid restaurants as much as possible. It’s just easier that way! We’ve never been in the habit of eating out with much frequency, but holidays are often celebrated by going out to dinner in our families. Including mother’s day.
Last year my family went to the park for mother’s day.
I thought I would share a few reasons why you may want to skip the restaurant this mother’s day.
- Save the calories!
- Avoid the long lines. We’ve waited over an hour in line on Mother’s day before. That is not fun.
- Having dinner at home is quieter. Crowded restaurants can be noisy and make it hard to spend quality time with those around the table with you.
- Easier with kids. If you have little ones in your extended family, then you probably know that waiting in line for an hour, and then waiting 40 minutes for food to hit the table is not very fun with young kids. Doing something more family-friendly can provide a better overall experience.
- More special or personalized. Most people just go out to dinner as a default. If you can cater your plans to something more specific to your mom, it might feel more special. For instance, going to the art museum or the beach might feel more special to her if those are her interests.
Do you usually eat out for the holidays? What might you do instead this year?

Those are great reasons to avoid restaurants on a holiday. I like to control my food because of health issues and allergies. We always would rather have a quieter time at home.

I completely avoid restaurants in general especially around any holiday. Multiple reasons why and being a single mom with three kids is high on my list plus, being around crowds gives me anxiety.

I rarely go out for holidays with the exception of our anniversary. As you said the lines are long, and around here it seems everything is over priced. I always like taking a car ride or going on a picnic or doing something away from home yet simple. One of my favorite things has actually been suggesting plants for gifts and planting my garden.
