Being on the keto diet has its perks because you’ll be relying more so on your macros and fat intake rather than your calories. Through following a good keto-friendly meal plan, you’ll be able to reap its many health benefits, such as weight loss, balanced cholesterol levels, and even a clearer mind! But when meal planning, you have to learn about what food to eat and avoid in ketones if you want to experience efficient fat burning. So read on and learn all about what you should eat to stay in ketosis!

What Food You Can Eat In The Keto Diet
Here are the basic food you can eat without worry when you want to maintain ketosis:

Fat and Oil

Anything that contains fat should be on top of your list! Get your fix of fats from natural oils and sources such as meat and nuts. Coconut oil, olive oil, and butter is also an excellent way to increase your fat intake.

Protein
Tofu

It’s best to go for grass-fed meat, which does not have any added sugar. You can also get your fix of protein from raw tofu, which will be able to keep you satiated. I like my protein coming from meat or natural ingredients, which do not have any added carbs (NO to whey protein!).

Vegetables
Vegetables

It doesn’t matter whether you have fresh or frozen vegetables. As long as they are above-ground vegetables (green and leafy are best), then it’s a must-have on your list for your overall health.

Dairy

You can have your dairy, but I recommend that you get full-fat dairy products, not low-fat. Full-fat cream or milk is excellent, as well as harder cheese, which has fewer carbs than other types of cheeses. I usually add full-fat cream to my coffee for better flavor!

Nuts and Seeds

These are another natural source of fat, which can either be eaten alone as a snack or alongside your dishes to create beautiful flavors and textures. Do eat it in moderation as they are quite heavy on the calories!

Drinks
lemon juice
If you’re wondering what to drink, I would recommend that you stick to water. If you want some flavor, go for stevia-based flavorings or with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice. I would avoid diet drinks, which are high in chemicals you don’t want in your body. Be wary of your alcohol intake and if you do drink it, go for hard liquor.

Spices and Sauces
Sauces

If you’re looking for low-carb spices, go for Cayenne paper, chili powder, cinnamon, oregano, basil, parsley, rosemary, or thyme. Salt and pepper have no carbs so you won’t need to worry about its macros. As for sauces, avoid pre-made at all cost and make your own, so you can measure how many carbs it has.

What Food You Should Avoid In The Keto Diet
But remember there are certain foods you should avoid, specifically those high in carbs! Here are what shouldn’t be in your meal plans:

Starch
Not all vegetables are good for the keto diet! Avoid vegetables like yams and potatoes, as well as other starches such as muesli and oats. You can have root vegetables in moderation but make sure to count its carbs!

Grains
pasta

Yes, you should avoid grains like pasta, bread, cereal, rice, and beer. But not to worry, you can even make your own keto diet pizza recipe with the right ingredients! Just avoid wheat products, as well as whole grains.

Sugar
sugar

Sugar is already a given as it contains mostly carbs. If you’re planning on getting something processed and sweet, then turn it away. Soda, chocolate, ice cream, candy, or even sports drinks and juices are a no-no.

Fruits
Yes, you shouldn’t consume a lot of fruits on this diet because of its high carb and sugar. You CAN eat berries in moderation, though. But avoid apples, bananas, oranges, or other large fruits.

Low-Fat Food
The reason why you’re on a low-carb diet is to have a high fat intake! So avoid low-fat items, which are higher in carbs and sugar. Read the package and choose full-fat instead.

Wrapping It Up
Special tips for sleeping and counting calories aren’t the only things you’ll need when you start a new low-carb diet! When you want to reach and maintain ketosis, it’s all about what you consume as well. That way, you’ll be able to burn fat efficiently and healthily.

I am not familiar with this kind of diet, but most of the info is good for most people. I drink water and avoid sugar.

This was actually pretty interesting. I am a total carb addict and love salt. I am not much of a sweet eater, only a bit of sugar with coffee. I could likely do this diet but would struggle with the no breads no potatoes etc.
