Owala water bottles review

I was sent Owala water bottles for review. All opinions are my own.

Man 2020 has been an odd year! When I accepted this review, it was with the plan for Ryan to take these water bottles to work. In late April he started working from home due to the pandemic. Yes, about a month later than most other people who transitioned to working from home – his was due to unique circumstances. Anyway, he no longer is going in to work, but he will again someday. In the meantime, we still use water bottles around the house sometimes, and we’ll also use them if we’re able to get out of the house.

We’ve tried a variety of water bottles in the past and we’ve learned some of our likes and dislikes. Ryan didn’t have a water bottle that he particularly loved which is why I decided to request some Owala bottles with him in mind.

Working in an office setting, Ryan rise to avoid making noise and bothering his coworkers. Many spill-proof water bottle shave some sort of seal and require you to stuck on the bottle in order to get the water out. Then once you’re done sucking, air has to be replaced in the bottle so it slowly draws air back into the bottle and will produce a squeaking noise. Some water bottles will also cause the water to gurgle a bit as that air gets returned. Ryan didn’t like his water bottle making noise all day while at work. He also didn’t really care for having to suck on the bottle to get water out, it makes the process rather slow sometimes. He wasn’t worried about needing a spill proof container.

Owala makes pretty straightforward bottles, which was part of the appeal for us. They have 3 designs for their lids/spouts and the bottles come in different sizes and in stainless steel or tritan (a type of plastic) and in a few different colors.

These are what led me to request the Owala FreeSip and Owala Twist bottles.
Owala twist review

The Owala Twist water bottle is a really simple water bottle, frankly. But that’s why we like it – we don’t need bells and whistles! The twist bottle has an attached lid that takes just 1/2 of a turn to release the lid (compared to the average of 3.2 turns on other bottles) so it’s quick to access and can even be done with one hand if you need to. Once the lid is out of the way, the spout is just an open hole so you can “chug” your water if you want to. I love how the lid is permanently attached so there is no risk of it getting lost. This bottle is available in a stainless steel and tritan. We both feel like stainless steel sometimes adds a metallic taste to things, so we stuck with tritan. The width of the cup is a nice size and fits in most cup holders.

Owala freesip

The Owala FreeSip is cool because in my mind, it gives you two choices for how you want to use it. It comes with a straw so if you’d like to sip your water while he bottle is upright, you can. However, if you’re like Ryan and prefer to chug your drinks, you can remove the straw and just tip the bottle back and use it more like the Twist. For couples like us, it gives us the ability for him to use it sometimes and for me to use it sometimes and for each of us to use it in the way we most prefer. If you’re looking to gift a water bottle and don’t know someone’s wear bottle preferences, this would be a good one to go with because it gives them multiple options.

There is a third type of water bottle from Owala that you can learn more about on their website!

Father’s day will be here before you know it and these would make a great gift for active men or anyone guys who need water on the go.

I love that it’s just a simple bottle. I dislike most bottles I’ve bought so far but this one sounds perfect. I would use the “chug” option to I’m sorry to admit.

I like that it’s easy to open with one hand. I keep a bottle in the car and want to be able to get a drink with one hand.

I like how the lid is attached. Nohing worse than losing a lid to a water bottle! I also like that you could use a straw with this that is pretty neat!

These Owala water bottles look excellent. I like to have water with me when I’m working in my garden and one of these bottles would be perfect!
