MALACASA sent me their Amelia 24 piece dinnerwear set for review. There are affiliate links in this post. All opinions are my own.

For most of my adult life, I’ve had small kitchens. I try to be mindful of the kitchen space that we have, and that includes keeping a relatively small set of dinnerwear pieces that we can use for lots of purposes. I don’t want a bunch of single-use dishes. I also am someone who prefers to purchase a product and then keep it long-term rather than replace items to keep up with fads or trends.

I’d had two partial sets of dinner plates for many years but I’ve occasionally had a plate break here or there. Then, about a year ago I got a dishwasher for the first time in about ten years. One set of my dinner plates had been completely clear, and they were supposed to be dishwasher safe but they became cloudy after being in the dishwasher. No amount of rinse aid, vinegar, baking soda, or anything else I tried could seem to get it to go away. So, I decided it was time to give in and replace our dishes.

I wanted a set that would be good for all of our regular meals, and have a look and design that I’d be happy using for years. I didn’t want anything that would quickly feel dated. When I came across the MALACASA Amelia set, I thought it was perfect!

The Malacasa Amelia set is a 24-piece set that gives you 6 of 4 different dishes. It comes with large dinner plates, dessert plates, cereal bowls and pasta bowls. They’re all simply plain white, and simple, rounded designs. Very classic, very practical, yet pleasant to look at in my opinion.

We don’t use dessert plates or pasta plates much, but we’ve been getting a ton of use out of the dinner plates and cereal bowls. We use the cereal bowls for cereal, soup and almost anything else that we’d want a bowl for, really. They’re a great size for almost everything we eat.

This is a full can of Progresso soup if that helps you reference how much the bowl holds.

I was a little unsure of what to expect when ordering porcelain dinnerware online. The idea of shipping porcelain seemed a little risky, but everything arrived unscathed. The set is packaged with lots of foam and other insulation to help protect the pieces inside.

One of my favorite things about this set is how wonderfully they work in the dishwasher. My old dishes were dishwasher safe as well, don’t get me wrong. The Amelia set seems to be made with the dishwasher in mind, though. With most dishes I’ve owned (including bowls and plates) they gather small pools of water around the plate rim or the bottom edge. This means that if I let my dishwasher complete the dry cycle, I open the dishwasher to find that small bits of water are still pooled on the dishes, and/or water had pooled there an then dried during the dry cycle and left water stains.

The Amelia set when placed in our dishwasher in the regular almost-entirely-upright position will come out of the dry cycle completely dry, and completely free from water stains. I had been in the habit of trying to catch our dishes before the dry cycle started so I could manually dry them. It’s nice that with this set, I can let the dishwasher do the drying!

I also appreciate how well the sets stack. The pasta bowls are wide, so we can stack the cereal bowls inside of the pasta bowls in our cupboards.

One day I had one of the dinner plates on the counter and it was bumped to the floor, roughly a 3-foot fall onto our linoleum floor. It didn’t crack or break. I am not sure if we got really lucky with the way it landed, or if these will prove to be really sturdy. So far, I’m definitely pleased!

That’s a plus that these dishes are easy to load in the dishwasher. They do look like a good set of dishes for everyday use.

This dinnerware looks elegant but does not sound like something you would just safe for special occasions. I don’t have a dishwasher but it sounds like this stuff does great in it.

This is a really pretty dinnerware set; I really like the simplicity of them! I also think it is cool that they came with pasta bowls, this is something you don’t see often in a set.

What a nice set of dishes with such a simple but classic look. A big plus that they do so well in the dishwasher. Although my current set of bowls are dishwasher safe, they never come out clean and dry.
