Anyone who’s owned a long-haired cat knows the struggle of trying to keep their water clean! Our cat Pepperoni has beautiful long fur, but she also has this adorable (yet slightly frustrating) habit of dipping her paw into her water before drinking. With our previous ceramic fountain, this meant I was constantly finding little cat hairs floating around, and even though it had a charcoal filter, those hairs would just sit there looking gross until I changed the water completely.
I’d been wanting to try the Brook all-glass fountain specifically because it has a dual filtration system – not just the typical activated carbon filter that most fountains have, but also a physical particle filter that actually catches debris like fur and lint. And honestly? It’s been a game-changer for us!
What makes this fountain different
The all-glass design immediately caught my attention. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous about having a glass water fountain with a cat who likes to zoom around the apartment at 3am, but it feels really sturdy and substantial. Plus, being able to see the water level and clarity at a glance is so helpful – no more guessing if it needs a refill or if the water looks clean.
The best part though is definitely that dual filtration system I mentioned. Since we’ve been using this Brook fountain, Pepperoni’s water stays noticeably cleaner for several days at a time instead of needing daily water changes. The particle filter ring really does catch her fur before it can float around in the main water reservoir.
Pepperoni’s verdict
Here’s something I wasn’t expecting – with our old ceramic fountain, Pepperoni would always drink from the side basin but never directly from where the water was flowing. With this Brook fountain, she drinks right from the tippy top where the water comes out! I’m not sure if it’s the adjustable flow settings (you can choose from 3 different intensities) or just the design, but she seems to really prefer it.
The fountain is also genuinely quiet. The only time I notice any sound is if we accidentally let the water level get too low, and even then it’s just a gentle reminder rather than anything disruptive. Ryan and I were both impressed by how silent the pump is during normal operation.
Cleaning and maintenance
This is where the all-glass design really shines. Everything comes apart instantly for cleaning, and since it’s dishwasher safe, I can just pop the glass components right in with our regular dishes. They include little cleaning brushes too, which is thoughtful. The whole process takes maybe 2-3 minutes of actual hands-on time.
A few things to note
The fountain does have an optional blue LED light that illuminates the flowing water, which is pretty but I ended up using the included cover to turn it off since I preferred not having the extra light. The 90oz capacity is perfect for our single cat household – I’d say I refill it about every 4-5 days depending on how much Pepperoni drinks.
I did notice that this fountain sometimes goes out of stock on Amazon (apparently it sells 500+ per day according to the listing!), so if you’re interested and it’s not available, I’d suggest adding it to your wishlist and checking back periodically.
TL;DR
If you currently have a pet fountain that doesn’t include a physical debris filter, I’d totally recommend upgrading to this Brook fountain. The dual filtration system makes such a difference, especially if you have a long-haired cat or a pet who likes to “play” with their water before drinking. At around $80-90, it’s definitely an investment compared to basic fountains, but the glass construction and superior filtration system make it worth it for the convenience and peace of mind. This product truly meets all of my ideals for what a cat fountain should be!
