EMS sent me men’s clothing for review and inclusion in my holiday gift guide. All opinions are my own.
I know I’m not the only woman who finds herself buying a lot of practical gifts for men. My husband is really generous in what he gifts me for holidays and special events, yet he never wants to spend money on himself, even for holidays! If I buy too many “wants” he feels guilty. I still buy him some “just fun” items – but I’ve found that practical gifts that are nice are a great middle ground!
This year, I turned to EMS or Eastern Mountain Sports for some nice practical gifts for my husband Ryan. He doesn’t like buying himself new clothing, but I want him to have clothing that he feels good in and that are well made. We live in Michigan so we get all the weather traditionally associated with each season, but our falls and springs are both extra chilly more often than not. So, we have a lot of days each year where we can make use of long sleeves, sweaters and jackets.
EMS has been around since 1967 and prioritize the values of quality, value and authenticity. As I browsed their options, I saw several that jumped out at me as fitting Ryan’s style well. He doesn’t like to stand out in a crowd, he likes neutral colors and simple but high quality pieces – and EMS has those in spades!
I have four pieces to highlight for you, though I’ve only given one to Ryan so far. The rest are Christmas surprises so please don’t tell!
I’l start with the one I already gave him. The EMS Radius Mens Softshell Jacket. This is a softshell jacket that is relatively thin but is water resistent making it suitable for rain or light snow. The inside has fleece for added warmth, and the cuffs can adjust to help keep air out. There are pockets on the front to help store extra items. Ryan is about 5’11” and this jacket sits slightly lower on him than most shirts would which in my opinion is perfect for jackets. No risk of getting a cold breeze up your shirt if your jacket is a bit longer.
While this is more of a early fall or late spring jacket by itself, Ryan has been wearing this with a hoodie underneath and that’s made it comfortable for him despite it being late fall here. He likes how it’s thin and light, and easier to move around in than some stiffer jackets. The solid black appearance is really sleek.
The zipper helps close the hood around your neck when fully zipped if you get chilly or really want to keep the wind out of your neck area. This jacket is usually $109.99 but is currently 50% off, making it just $54.99!
Next, I chose the EMS Stream II Fleece Lined Shirt. Ryan likes to wear lined-flannel jackets around the house much of the winter, and it had been a few years since we’d got him any new ones. I liked how this one was available in a blue plaid that isn’t too “showy” as Ryan doesn’t like plaid prints that are too colorful or loud. The inside is fleece lined so it’s really soft and extra warm. I like how this zips up rather than buttons, making it super easy to put on and off. This is usually $94.99 but is currently on sale for $39.99.
A few times lately, I’ve noticed Ryan wants something nicer than a simple t-shirt, but not a dress shirt either. There are just some functions that call for an in-between option, and he’s gotten pretty unhappy with his wardrobe in that department. I thought this EMS Mens Woven Long Sleeve Shirt was perfect! You can’t really go wrong with gray and this is available in two shades of gray. I love how verstaile more casual button ups are because they can be dressed up some or down some depending on how you style them. I know he’ll get lots of wear out of this one. And finally, this super practical half-zip fleece. Everyone needs a good half-zip fleece, and black goes well with most anything. It can work well as an over-layer for staying warm on any chilly day hanging around the house, or it would layer well when heading out for a day outside in the winter. Such a good staple piece to own. This has a really nice regular price of just $29.99, but is currently half off. Pretty hard to beat that price point!
