Academy.com sent clothing for my review. All opinions are my own.
Academy.com is a sports and outdoor-themed retailer. If you have an athletic person on your list, they have sports and athletic clothing, sneakers, jerseys, weight benches and other workout equipment, swimming or pool accessories and more.
For those who are more traditionally outdoorsy, they have rugged clothing that’s perfect for hiking or doing farm chores, boots, grills, fishing equipment, hunting-related items, outdoor toys and beyond.
Academy sells products from brands you already know and love, like Carthartt, Under Armour, Nike, Columbia, Yeti, Ariat, RealTree, Blackstone, Winchester, Stanley, The North Face – you get the idea! Lots of awesome, high quality brands for athletic and outdoor items. However, they also have their own brands, and that’s what I’m focusing on today.
I was sent four clothing items, each from brands that Academy manufacturers. Their brands include Freely, Magellan, R.O.W, BCG, H2OX, Redfield, and Mosaic. I was sent items from Freely and Magellen for review. I found all of the items to be slightly on the generous side, so if you’re between sizes, you may be able to go with the smaller size.

Magellan Outdoors Women’s Hickory Canyon Ribbed Long Sleeve Henley sells for $24.99 and this is a nice top for that price point! I opted for the “fig heather” color but it’s available in three others as well. The material is a 59% cotton, 38% polyester and 4% spandex blend. I am sensory sensitive and prefer clothing that feels closer to cotton. Some polyesters feel almost damp/cold/wet to me, while cotton-based materials feel dry. That might sound nuts to you if you aren’t a sensory sensitive person but, for what it’s worth, this has the more dry, cotton-like feel to it which is what I was hoping for! I like how it’s slightly long, so I don’t have to worry about my belly or lower back showing when I move around in this shirt.

The Magellan Outdoors Women’s Pecos Ridge Solid V-neck T-shirt fits a little boxy on me, probably due to me being 5’1″? Or maybe I should have sized down? I think it’s probably my height though. I am not always opposed to a boxy fit though! I love the color and the feel of the fabric. I went with the “lilas” color and it’s available in three others. This shirt is also $24.99 and also is a 57% cotton, 38% polyester and 5% spandex blend. I don’t think I would have even known this one wasn’t a 100% cotton shirt if I hadn’t read that! It is a nice mid-weight.

While I like everything I received from Academy, this Freely Women’s Hilary Mixed Rib Cozy Half Zip Hoodie has quickly become one of my favorite articles of clothing. Purple is my favorite color and while it’s never been especially easy to find purple clothing, it seems that it’s gotten particularly hard the last few years. I was so excited to see that Freely made this half zip hoodie in purple, especially this shade of purple. Not reddish purple or blueish purple, just a true purple. They call it Loganberry, and it’s available in seven other colors for those who aren’t purple-crazy like me. This hoodie has thumb holes in the sleeves, and the fabric around the holes is nice and relaxed. I hate when hoodies have thumb holes but then the fabric is so tight that it feels like your thumbs are prone to get stuck in the holes if you use them. I like how the collar of this lays down nicely when the hood isn’t in use. My husband handles our laundry and I’ve made special requests for him to wash this ASAP for me because I want to just live in it right now. It’s soft, comfortable to wear and just so cozy to throw over any top. This sells for $49.99.

Finally, the Freely Women’s Haven Luxe Jogging Pants. I tend to think of leggings and joggers as coming in two main types. One are the really moisture-wicking fabric that is really slick feeling to the touch, they tend to hold in your belly better, but are less comfy for lounging. Those ones really aren’t a good match for my sensory aversions. The other are more cotton-based pants that are super comfortable for wearing around the house. These definitely fall into the second category. Not much pressure on your belly or hips, they don’t “hold everything in” and don’t scream “moisture wicking” – and they’re comfy! Apologies for my photo not including my feet, but they do taper in at the ankle like a typical jogger. These are so comfortable that I could sleep in them! Being black, they pair well with most any shirt. So, these have quickly become an article of clothing that I find myself reaching for again as soon as they’ve been washed again. They’re also available in two other colors, and sell for $39.99.
I was really happy with all four items I was sent! In my experience, Magellan and Freely clothing are both high-quality, comfortable pieces. I’d definitely shop at Academy in the future and specifically from these two brands.

I love the purple fleece jacket! Purple is also my favorite color, and it looks soft!
