A message that I got from my high school art teacher was – art is for everybody! You don’t have to aspire to be a professional artist, or someone who gives others handmade gifts for christmas, in order to enjoy forms of creative expression. You don’t have to produce something that you want to hang on your wall in order to spend time creating something. Sometimes, enjoying the process is worthwhile enough! And it can be great for our mental health to have an outlet of expression beyond just talking.
I’ve never been a very good artist, but I find an emotional benefit from experimenting with a variety of art forms, so I do. One of my go-tos is coloring. I love that several yeasr ago adult coloring became really popular and normalized. I’ve enjoyed coloring since I was a kid and never really gave it up. While some prefer coloring with colored pencils, I have always found markers to be a more enjoyable experience because they glide more easily.
