Do you ever feel like you will never find a sharp pencil in your house? I did. So I went in search a great pencil sharpener. Well, I can say that the one I bought at a local big box store did not cut it. Not only did it not sharpen pencils very well, the compartment that holds the shavings falls off and makes a mess all the time. I have actually resorted to rubber banding it on. So I continued on my journey. Then I came across Classroom Friendly Supplies.

I was sent a Groovy Green Pencil Sharpener to see if it could help with my sharpening woes. Classroom Friendly Supplies offers their sharpener in four different colors.  Groovy Green, Cool Blue, Firehouse Red, and Midnight Black.  My husband brought the package in right before lunch so I was just chomping at bit since I had to wait to open it.  As soon as lunch was over, I made the deal with my husband that I would clean up the dishes if he would open the sharpener and start testing it out.  Of course, he took that deal right away.  Our 8 year old daughter ran to get her stash of pencils that always need sharpening because our current sharpener was such a dud.  It took her about 5 seconds to have her first pencil sharp.  And I mean sharp!  So far, I’m impressed.  I even had to take a break from dish washing to watch her do pencil number 2.  Same amazing result.  Next, I ask our 5 year old to grab a pencil and give it a try.  Since we homeschool, we use pencils every day and it’s important that the kids can do this seemingly simple (not so with our old sharpener) task on their own so I don’t need to come running every time a pencil tip breaks or wears down.  He was able to insert the pencil and sharpen it with no help either.

Check out those tips.  Our old sharpener came nowhere near that.  Plus, Classroom Friendly Supplies Sharpener, did this without eating up the whole pencil.  The amount of shavings that this sharpener leaves behind in the canister is also minimal.  We sharpened about a dozen or more pencils and would not have had to empty the shavings yet.  I chose to so you could see how easy it was though.  You just slide the canister out and dump.  Then it easily just slides right back in.

I also wanted to mention that this sharpener is very quiet.  I’m sure we all remember the loud grinding noise of the school sharpeners.  This sharpener was created by a primary school teacher after realizing that there were a lot of teachers that were fed up with the inefficient noisy ones that are the norm in classrooms.  The sharpener also comes with the option of attaching it to a counter or table with a clamp.  The clamp is included.  We choose to put ours in our kitchen since that is the most central location.
