Technology has come a long way since I was young. I remember getting to go to the computer lab in elementary school to play games, particularly my favorites: Oregon Trail and Number Munchers, with floppy disks. Gone are the days of the black wiggly game disks but, thankfully, quality learning games are still here to stay. Kids learn best and retain what they learn if they have fun during the process.
I was sent a sample copy of Super Duper Publication’s HearBuilder Auditory Memory CD-ROM Game for review. Geared for children Kindergarten through 8th grade, I am always excited to try anything that makes learning more fun. HearBuilder aids children in practicing comprehension, listening skills, and teaching skills to help remember numbers, words, sentences, and stories. There are multiple levels and the program keeps track of each child’s progress while allowing you to monitor that progress. You can also use this program for one to four children.
The Super Duper Publications HearBuilder Auditory Memory CD ROM is engaging and the kids have been having a great time using it. Our 8, 6, and 3 year olds are completely enthralled while using the program. The older two children are able to work through the different screens, games, and activities by themselves and our 3 year old can manage with a little help. There are also different settings allowing you to control what level(s) you wish each child to work on and advance to. I like that the graphics are enticing and fun but not too busy or distracting. The sounds and music that are heard throughout the program are encouraging and adds to the fun.
Each skill builder will have the children work on skills and then switch to a short game and then back to skills. The HearBuilder program has a great mixture of learning and fun and the kids don’t even realize they are building skills.
