Spending time in the sun is one of our favorite activities in the summer. Whether we’re at the beach, by the pool, or just running through sprinklers or ‘shooting’ each other with water guns, there’s always a lot of fun to be had! However, we have to be mindful of the harmful effects the sun can have on our skin and our children’s skin.

Given that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer (with over 2 million people diagnosed every year in the US alone) and that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime, protecting our skin from the sun should really be a priority for all.

 SwimZip offers unique swimwear that provides 50+ UV protection (they block 98% of UVA and UVB rays). They are also designed with functionality in mind: they all have a zipper that runs the entire length of the top (or all the way to the ankle for the rompers) so they are very easy to put on and take off even when they are wet. Some models come with short sleeves, others with long sleeves so you can choose how much coverage you want. Miranda and I each received one swimsuit to review. She received the Crabby Pants Long Sleeve Swim Shirt Rash Guard & Trunks for boys, and I received the Oh Oh Summer Fun 2-piece Swimsuit for girls.

Rachel’s Review:

I had the opportunity to review another SwimZip swimsuit last year for my daughter so I already knew that the Oh Oh Summer Fun swimsuit would be perfect for my daughter. The top is a fun geometric navy blue and cream pattern (on the website, it says it’s blue and yellow but it’s such a light shade, it looks more cream to me). The bottom is a solid navy blue. It has cinched sides with with bows.

As with all SwimZip swimwear, the top has a full-length zipper so my daughter is actually able to take it off (and zip it up if we start it for her). There is a flap of fabric at the top that covers the zipper and prevents it from scratching the skin. I like the girly touch that the bows on each sleeve bring. The only downfall is that I find the top to be long. That’s probably because my daughter is very short for her age. I wish it had some ruching and ties on each side so the length could be adjusted.

Other than that, I love the peace of mind that this swimwear brings. I know her skin is well protected (I obviously still apply sunscreen on her face, arms and legs). I love that SwimZip offers many different prints and colors and also has sun hats, towels, and cover ups. They also have a few cute options for women and I hope to see their collection expand even more.

Miranda’s Review:

Protecting my family from the elements is important and I like the fact that SwimZip makes it a little easier when it comes to the sun’s harmful rays. Their swimwear is not only easy to put on with the front zipper, but gives the extra coverage I am looking for whether we are at the beach, park, local Summer attractions, or just playing in our yard.

I received the Boys Crabby Pants Long Sleeve Swim Shirt Rash Guard & Trunks for our middle son who will be soon be four years old. I debated for quite awhile before settling on a long-sleeved version because we’ve only had short-sleeved swimwear before this. However, since our son loves being outdoors and spends many hours in the sun on a daily basis, I decided it would be nice to give it a try. I have been pleasantly surprised at the fact that the long sleeves offer even more protection but haven’t caused our son to overheat. Their Rash Guards can be paired with a regular bottom and offer lightweight sun protection any time and any where.

We love SwimZip products so much that at the beginning of Summer, I also purchased the Surfer Dude Short Sleeve Rash Guard & Trunk Set our oldest son because he had outgrown his previous SwimZip Rash Guard. Our first Blue Rash Guard was one of the starting products SwimZip offered when they first began their company and our oldest wore it often for a few years and it still looks almost new.
