I don’t usually write personal posts but I wanted to share a story today, to hopefully spread a little bit of feeling of hope around seems how it’s Christmas season right now. I have a sister who is pushing 40 and is a single mom of 4 kids, she can’t drive, she washes dishes for a living and just…you know, one of those situations? Her kids are 16, 11, 5 and 3. She often mentions to me that one of the kids needs a coat, or a pair of shoes, or whatever it may be. She’s technically my half sister, who shares a dad with me (so my mom isn’t her mom) but my mom was her step mom for many years and between my me and my mom, who i usually mention it to, we come up with whatever the kid is in need of at the time. we are all about yard sales, thrift stores, free and cheap cycle, craigslist, etc. Well last week my sister had messaged me saying that her 5 year old needed a coat really badly. Well my mom had posted on a group that she belongs to that I don’t, for our area and a woman responded saying she has a coat and boots (we didn’t even list for boots) but she offered to drop them off at my moms house, seems how she had traded things back and forth with my mom in the past, so she knew where my mom lived. Well she showed up an hour or so ago at my moms with a brand new coat, brand new snowpants, brand new boots, TWO sets of brand new gloves, and two brand new hats.
Her only explanation was, she has 3 little boys, ages 2, 5 and 7, and she couldn’t imagine having any of them go without, and she had plenty so she wanted to help out a little guy in need.
When my mom called to tell me I couldn’t help but cry. She said she had started crying as soon as the lady opened up the bag to show what she had brought.
It amazes me that someone could be so generous, to another person who a week ago they had no idea even existed. It just makes me feel so full of HOPE about people and the world as a whole.
All she asked in return was that someone snap a picture of him with all of his new stuff. My mom is bringing me the stuff tomorrow morning and i’ll run it over to my sister tomorrow night. I can’t wait to see how excited he is. I’ll post a picture once I get it uploaded.
