About the blog owner 🙂

I have a degree in zoology, so most of my work centers around animal or nature themes. The fact that my day job is zoo keeping kind of cements the fact that my whole life is pretty much devoted to animal conservation. To further that aim, I donate 20% of the purchase price of every item sold in my shop to the Tapir Preservation Fund. TPF is a great organization that, you guessed it, works to preserve tapirs and tapir habitat. Tapirs are big animals, so preserving their habitat also helps all the other animals that call the rain forest home, from frogs to orchids to bats to jaguars! Here’s a link to TPF: http://www.tapirback.com/tapirgal/fund.htm

A lot of the items in my shop are repurposed or up-cycled too, which continues the conservation theme. Of course, some of them are just for fun, like the cat toys. Mostly, I just love to create. When I’m not scrubbing monkey cages or training a parrot I’m usually in my studio crafting or writing. That is, when I’m not caring for my personal menagerie of rescued animals: four cats, a dog, a bunny and two lovebirds.

I guess my biggest complaint about life is that there aren’t more hours in the day to accomplish all of the things I want to do. My first graphic novel, Heathentown (a collaboration with my brilliant illustrator husband, currently drawing Atlas for Marvel Comics), was published last year by Image Comics. Between my husband and myself there are usually at least six projects going on at any one time in our home. Oh well, at least we are never bored!
