I have odd sleeping patterns. I sometimes struggle to sleep at all, while other times, if I’m out of school and have no obligations, I can sleep for over 12 hours a night for 3 days in a row. However, regardless of whether I’ve recently slept well or not, I almost always struggle to fall asleep. I am a natural worrier and when I lay down for the night my mind refuses to shut off. When I first heard of nap26, by seeing it on another blog, I knew I had to try it out.
powernaps sent me their nap26 which arrives on a cd, but you can put the cd in your computer and transfer the music file onto an mp3 player, if you so choose. The music is intended to allow you to quickly drift off to sleep, and to reawaken in approximately 26 minutes, after having went through only the first two stages of sleep, because once you get into the third stage of sleep, you are hard to awaken and will feel groggy. Nap26 is suppose to allow you to get the maximum amount of sleep benefits from a quick nap without being groggy.
I found that the music is very relaxing, but I am unable to fall asleep in the amount of time that the music plays. I don’t have a personal cd player, so I put the music file onto my mp3 player, and used regular modern headphones that go inside of your ears, but the headphones stick out of my ears slightly, and I sleep on the side of my head, and although the headphones are small they do stick out of my ears slightly, and its painful to lay on either side of my head with the headphones in. I think this is part of why I wasn’t able to sleep, because it was painful to lay on either side and it’s unnatural for me to sleep on the back of my head. Also, although the music is relaxing I couldn’t clear my mind enough to concentrate only on the music. I thought maybe if I could force myself to fully concentrate on the music, it may have worked better.
Powernaps also sent me their Easy2sleep cd. Their easy2sleep cd is a similar concept to the nap26, except it’s intended to be used before bed, instead of before a quick nap. However, it states that it should be used through headphones only as well, so I had the same struggles with this because of my headphones. Like the nap26 cd, I found the music very relaxing. The beginning of the music starts out including a lot of tones and slowly turns into a rain-like sound that plays for a long time. I enjoy the sound of rain, but it stays really the same for a long time, and I found that this allowed my mind to wander a lot, where as at the beginning I stayed more concentrated on just the music because it changed, so I wish that the music would continue to change more, as I think that might allow this cd to work for me. Although I haven’t yet managed to fall asleep while listening to either cd, they both do relax me a lot, and if I listen to them for 5-10 minutes and then take the headphones out and lay down, I do fall asleep quicker than I would otherwise, so I have continued to use them for that purpose.
If you are interested in this product I would consider searching for other reviews, because although they didn’t work as well as I had hoped for myself, I have read reviews on other blogs that I read & trust as honest review bloggers, where the product did work for them. Perhaps if you read a few reviews you will be able to get an idea for which kinds of people this music works for and who it doesn’t.
You can pay extra for the nap26 mp3 system, which might work better for you than the cd that I received and used on my mp3 player. The nap26 with personal mp3 player is valued at 29.99. Or you can purchase the easy2sleep cd for 14.99 and get the powernap cd for free. To purchase either product you can visit http://www.nap26.com.
