This post brought to you by Boy Scouts of America. All opinions are 100% mine.

This is a guest post by Ryan Smith, Emily’s boyfriend of 4 years.

When I was young boy I was a Boy Scout. On Saturday mornings I attended meetings lead by Mr. Sanford in the Olivet Elementary School cafeteria. We did activities and studied out of the Boy Scouts handbook. I recall mostly simple tasks like learning how to do knots. I didn’t really know what the Scouts were about, so the useful skills we learned there surprised me. But the biggest impression left on me was the scout leader, who always offered support and encouragement. I recall his positive reinforcement leaving making a big impression with me as a child.

There are so many benefits of being in Boy Scouts of America. One of the benefits of boy scouts is how it introduces boys to boys that they  may not have had classes with before. This allows them to break out of their comfort zone a bit and meet new kids. It can also help at the start of a new school year, if your son ends up in a classroom with someone he met in scouts but wouldn’t have known otherwise. Boy scouts is all about trying new activities, and getting used to trying new things is great for all kids and can ease their anxiety about trying new things in other parts of life. Another benefit is that boys in boy scouts are often more active than other boys, because they participate in outdoor activities with their boy scout group. Additionally, boy scouts is coming out with a new curriculum that has a focus on science and technology. Our technology updates so quickly now that many of todays kids will have jobs in the technologies or science fields. Boy scouts is a great way to increase your child’s interest in science and can provide great learning experiences as well. Plus, the boy scouts encourages activities that get the whole family involved, which can provide great bonding experiences for everyone involved.
