I’ve been couponing for about eight or nine months now. I have taken some online coupon classes and chatted with couponista’s. Most people have told me that binders are the best system. I don’t care to lug a 3 ring binder around in my cart, and I don’t feel that it’s neccessary to clip out every coupon from every insert, to take with me from the store. Truthfully, I, like most people I would assume, use less than 1/4 of the coupons in any given insert. So why spend all that extra time clipping and sorting? I’ve struggled to find a smaller, simpler system to use. I recently was sent the couponizer to try out and have been pretty pleased with it. It’s about the size of a traditional agenda or planner and has pockets that are labeled with category names. I simply clip the coupons frm the isnerts that are for items we buy and put them in the correct category. I do wish that I could have labeled the categories as categories such as “baby” don’t get used at all, and other categories like “paper/plastic” and “vegetarian” barely get used at all seems how we don’t buy paper towles, paper plates, or plastic cups at all. So the only coupons we’d have for that category are trash bag coupons, which we rarely ever have. Other categories like “personal care and beauty” were overflowing because coupons for razors, deodorant, bodywash, shampoo etc are very plentiful. So I have decided to use “baby” as “beauty” and only include “personal care” in the personal care and beauty pouch. So it just took a bit of adjusting for us, and I would imagine that each household could do similar adjusting to make the categories make sense for them. On the website you can purchase the “customizable couponizer” which comes with stickers so that you can create your own labels. At the front is a spread that includes a pocket on the left that says “coupons for this shopping trip” and on the right one that says “checkout”. This is my favorite feature because I can sort out coupons from the entire booklet that I plan to use before I ever leave home. Then, while shopping I move the coupons over to “check out” as I successfully find the products that I had hoped to find. Then if the store is out of stock, or if a sale price I had heard about wasn’t happening at my store, I can keep those coupons in the “this trip” pocket to avoid accidentally handing them to the cashier at checkout. Towards the front is another pocket that is labeled “coupons that expire this month”. I like this feature because I often clip out coupons for products that we regularly buy, whenever the paper comes. Then I hold onto them in hopes of a sale coming. However, if it’s a very common product for us, I try to remember to use teh coupons before they expire, even if the product doesn’t go on sale, seems how we will be buying the product anyway. This is a great way to keep yourself from forgetting to use those coupons. There is also two included pads of paper one which is a shopping list that has a checklist on each line that you can check if you have a coupon for the item, or leave blank if there’s no coupon. The other tablet allows you to keep track of how much you spent, when and where, as well as what percentage you saved. That way you can keep track of how successful your coupon trips have been.
Also included was a small pair of scissors which are helpful to bring with you to the grocery store in case you find a coupon flier and want to use the coupons you found on that trip. I personally am really bad at ripping coupons out in a clean tear, so having scissors is really helpful. And lastly, the couponizer comes with a red bag and a clear bag to help hold your couponizer in the store, as well as a pen and mousepad.
