I have long been a fan on Gorton’s fish sticks and was happy when they offered me two free product coupons to try whichever products I wanted. I went on the website to learn more about their products before I went shopping and was surprised at the variety of seafood they have! I was able to choose between breaded fillets, battered fillets, all natural grilled fillets, salmon grilled fillets, five star tilapia, fried shrimp and grilled shrimp…and in each of these categories are different seasonings on the seafood! It figuratively blew my mind! I really never knew they made more than fish sticks and battered fillets. I was in for a treat.
I like seafood alot, but I REALLY like shrimp. It is perhaps my favorite food, so I am a little picky about the quality and Gorton’s delivered. As their company says they are “centered around an intense focus on satisfying the consumer first, last, and always.”
I purchased popcorn shrimp and beer-battered shrimp with my two coupons. The beer-battered shrimp we simply fried in oil and ate with a homemade tartar sauce. It was really good. I was impressed with both the texture and the flavor. The popcorn shrimp I wanted to use to make Shrimp Po’ Boys with a recipe I found at their site and then tweaked a little bit. I made homemade french rolls and remoulade sauce. Then piled the roll high with popcorn shrimp, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado with a heavy slather of the remoulade sauce. It was luscious if I do say so myself. I wish I had a photo to share with you, but the one I took before I dug in turned out blurry and the sandwiches didn’t last too long. The popcorn shrimp were so good that even my daughter (who firmly dislikes seafood of all types) gave it a thumbs up!
Gorton’s is running a promotion called Fishermans’ Friday now through May 8.
