Like many states, Oregon is having some unique weather this year. Most of our winter was unusually dry. Then Mother Nature decided to play catch-up in the late winter/early spring by dumping buckets of rain and snow on us. Now in mid-spring we are seeing temperatures that we don’t’ normally see until early summer. This week we are in the 70s, baby birds are chirping, flowers are in bloom, and my girls (ages 3 and 5 years) are begging to get out the sprinkler toys and swimming pool. This is the weather that Oregonians dream about for 8 months out of the year.
As we all thaw, and spend more time outdoors, it is important that we remember to protect ourselves from the sun. Experts suggest we reduce our exposure to the sun during the hours from 10 am until 4 pm; this is when the sun’s rays are the most damaging. We can also wear protective clothing and sunglasses for an additional layer of protection. Wearing sunscreen on a regular basis is another great way to help fight the damaging sun rays.
Beyond Coastal makes broad-spectrum natural sunscreen products that are full of hydrating botanicals…they protect your skin and are good for your skin! For our review, Beyond Coastal sent us a goodie bag of their natural sunscreen products. I used the Kids Natural Sunscreen SPF 30+ on the girl’s body. They noticed that it smelt like “fresh flowers” and I noticed how thick the product was. It was thick but not greasy; it felt similar to diaper rash ointment. I put a little extra on thinking that it would soak in but, HOURS later, it was still sitting on top of their skin like a protective shield.
I let the girls apply the Active Face Stick SPF 30 and Active Lip Balm; they liked the fresh citrus smells and I liked the easy mess-free applicators.
Overall, I am very impressed with the natural sunscreen line at Beyond Coastal. I will for sure suggest these to my friends/family and will be buying them again.
