Puzzle Baron Sudoku

Most people like to have a puzzle book laying around for when they go on road trips, long flights or to take along to the doctors office. I seem to be more drawn to puzzle books than most people as I like to do them just to pass the time. When I find myself worrying about something pointless or something that is out of my control, they are a great way to force myself to stop thinking about negative stuff. I also find them useful for helping me calm down before bed if I need to go to bed before I’m that tired. I recently got to try out three books from puzzle baron including their logic puzzle book in volume 2, their sudoku book and the complete idiots guide to picture puzzles.

I was a bit surprised that the complete idiots guide to picture puzzles felt like a regular book, not a puzzle book that you feel comfortable writing in. Picture puzzles aren’t my favorite but I think that even someone who is an experienced picture puzzle doer would enjoy this book because I found even the easy puzzles to be more challenging than I had expected.

I really enjoy sudoku puzzles and have done them since I was in high school. Like most sudoku books, the beginning of the book starts with “Easy” puzzles and then “medium”, “hard” and “fiendish” sections follow later. I was pleasantly surprised at the difficulty level. In other books, I’ve had to get to the hardest level before having to make pencil marks with all of the possible options for each square. In the puzzle baron books I was doing this on the medium level for most (but not all) puzzles. I haven’t gotten to the hard or fiendish puzzles yet but I am sure they will be quite a challenge. This book would probably be quite difficult for young people or beginners but for more experienced sudoku fans, they’ll love how much of a challenge this book provides.

My favorite of the three books was the logic puzzle books. I’ve owned puzzle books before that have a variety of puzzle types, some of which include logic puzzles like those in this book but I’ve never owned an entire book of them. I’m not entirely sure why but logic puzzles are one of my favorite types of puzzles, so I really like having an entire book of just this type. They start off easy and get larger and harder. Once I’ve finished this book I plan to purchase the first puzzle baron logic puzzle book (volume 1) and would love to see them come out with more in the future. However, if I were to run out of puzzles I can access more on the puzzle baron website completely free. I prefer to be able to do them on pen and paper but the online ones are fun as well.
