I love babywearing! I’ve been wearing my daughter in a mei tai and a wrap ever since she was born. It’s a great bonding time for us. There are so many advantages to babywearing! My daughter is close to me and safe. My hands are free so I can cook, clean, fold laundry, etc. Babywearing can be done anywhere, at anytime whereas a stroller can sometimes get in the way.
We love to go to the beach, go for a walk in the park or hike in the woods. A stroller is definitely not ideal in these situations because the ground is uneven and wheels can sink in the sand or get stuck in tree roots. When we became parents, we were determined to continue to do the activities that we like and find ways to include our daughter. With babywearing, we’ve been able to bring her with us hiking, walking on the beach, etc. Wherever we go, she’s right there with us.
For those of you who, like me, live in a region where winters are very cold, you know that this is one of the biggest challenges to babywearing. When my daughter was younger, I would wear her tummy to tummy so it was easier to bundle in my winter coat. Obviously, even that wasn’t ideal because I couldn’t cover her entirely and I have to wrap her in blankets. Now that I wear her on my back, it’s impossible to protect her from the cold weather. It’s also impossible for me to wrap her while she is in her big snowsuit. I’m sure parents who babywear in the winter are familiar with these issues.
Fortunately Kowalli comes to the rescue to let you enjoy the benefits of babywearing even when the weather gets colder. It’s a covering that was created by New England parents, who know that it’s like to babywear in a colder climate. It is designed to fit over any brand of carrier, it is fully adjustable and easy to use. It can also be worn in any position: in front, on back, with the baby facing in or out, or in hip carry! The weather is definitely getting colder here and I was very excited to be given the opportunity to review a Kowalli!
Kowalli offers their baby carrier cover in 5 different color combos plus one one limited edition Penguin design (black and white). They also added matching KozyHats and SnuggleBoots to complete your little one’s outfit.
I was told that Kowallis were soft but I think that’s an understatement. They are so soft it’s hard to find the right words to describe them. You can only understand how soft they are by touching them yourself. They are made of 100% Polyester Polartec fleece which repels rain, snow, and wind and protects against temperatures as long as 15F (or -10C). The fabric is plush, lightweight, and rip and tear resistant. All they products are made in the US and are top quality.
Other than it’s softness, one of the main feature of the Kowalli is how easy it is to adjust. They come in one size fits most and are easily adjustable with a one-handed elastic tab. I also really like the elastic bands that keep the heat in the cover and stop the cold air from getting in. It is designed to fit both babies and toddlers (up to 3 years) and protects them from head to toe.
The Kowalli is very easy to put on. First, you put your baby in your baby carrier the same way you normally would (in any position you like), then your pull the cover over your head and slip your right arm in the armhole. The last step is to adjust the elastic tab for a perfect fit. That’s it! In case you’re a visual person and would like to see it in action, Kowalli created a YouTube video to demonstate the technique.
I love my Kowalli! It is such a versatile babywearing product. In my opinion, it’s an essential for babywearers who want to continue to enjoy an active lifestyle with their children all year round. I’m thrilled to be able to babywear safely and comfortably despite the weather getting colder. I strongly recommend that you check them out!
