Seems how I have 6 nephews between the ages of 2 and 8, I’ve bought a lot of building toys in the last several years.  None of them were as unique as Laser Pegs though. Laser Pegs are building toys that are clear plastic and come with a powerbase that allows the lights inside of the clear plastic pieces to light up. Like most other building toys, they come with suggested methods for assembling the pieces so that they resemble something (in my case – a 6-in-1 bug) but they can also be used creatively to create whatever your mind can come up with with the pieces.

The set says its recommended for ages 5+ and I used this with my nephew who will be 6 in less than a month. He wanted to try building the bug according to the instructions and because of his really basic reading skills at this age we helped him read them. However he was able to enjoy building random designs with the pieces all on his own so I think that the age recommendation is really accurate.

He loved that the design lit up and liked playing with his finished bug in the dark.

I like the Laser Pegs because they encourage his creativity and make him feel independent because he can play all on his own. I have to admit that I also like that this set only costs $19.99. Having a large family means I have to cut back on how much I spend per kid but I don’t like to compromise and get them something real small or something they wouldn’t really like. Laser Pegs are a great affordable gift that they’ll get a lot of play out of, so it’s really the best of both worlds.

Connect: You can connect with Laser Pegs on Facebook and Twitter.

Buy it: The 6-in-1 sets are available exclusively at Target but their other sets can be found on Amazon, the Laser Peg website and others.
