When I was about 4-9 years old my mom worked at job that was about 45 minutes away from where we lived. I don’t remember what hours she worked but she dropped us off at my grandma’s when it was still dark and when she picked us back up it was dark again, at least part of the year. Most of the day I was in school of course but the rest of the time was spent with my grandma so I had a close relationship with her. She loved birds and I had a pair of yellow bib overalls that I liked to wear. Somewhere along the way she started calling me her little goldfinch because of those bibs. I enjoyed the nickname so much that even after I outgrew the bibs I made my mom dig through store racks until she found me another pair in a larger size. My grandma passed away when I was nine and since then, goldfinches have always  continued to remind me of her and our relationship.

Lux Archive is a website that offers limited edition contemporary photography prints. The prints are available starting at 8 by 10 up through 40 by 40. They have a bird collection called wild birds flying from Paul Nelson that includes birds in flight in their natural habitat but without any distracting background. The Goldfinch Artwork is one of his photos which immediately grabbed my attention. The 8×10 is $100 and shipping is $5. The photographs aren’t framed so mine came sandwiched between two pieces of flat cardboard to keep it protected during shipping. I still need to get a frame for it but I look forward to displaying it in my home.

Lux Archive offers other realistic pieces as well as abstract ones from various artists. Lux Archive pieces  would be great for the art lover on your list or for people like me who just have a specific connection to a piece listed on the site.
