My dad is a pretty simple guy and is happy with what he has. He still doesn’t have a cellphone as he prefers his land line. He does have and use a DVD player but that’s about as involved as he will get with technology. He doesn’t really seem to need or want anything that he doesn’t already have so it’s really hard to come up with new gift ideas each year that he’ll actually use. If I get something too unique he likely just won’t use it, so I try to stick to practical gifts that he wants or would like. Most of the time, this results in getting something fishing related seems how fishing is probably his biggest hobby. He has a lot of “gear” and I don’t know enough about fishing gear to be able to pick out new items that would be useful for him for fishing so I often go for fishing themed gifts like clothing, hats or knickknacks.
Personal Creations is a website that specializes in customization and personalizable gifts for people of all ages. This year my gift to my dad is their Fish Whisperer Sweater. It’s just a basic pull-over (which is great because my dads the kind of guy who finds zip up or pullover hoodies too “out there” to use – I told you he’s a basics only kinda guy!) but the bobber is personalized with a name. Almost all fishing t-shirts seem to basically be the same – a big jumping fish in the middle so I like how this one is unique – showing a bobber and a lure. It just reads “fish whisperer” with the bobber finishing the sentence with a name.
I haven’t given the shirt to my dad yet so I took a photo of it on me. This is a men’s large and I fit a size small or sometimes medium in women’s so of course, it’s big on me but I believe it is true to size. Sizes M to 2XL are available and you can also order this same design in a t-shirt. I think it makes a great unique gift for fishermen. If the man in your life isn’t interested in fishing, check out the other items in their Gifts For Men section. There are gift ideas for all types of different interests.
*Edit*
I gave the sweatshirt to my dad for Christmas, he wore it once and then put it in his hamper. When he went to pull it out of the hamper, the front of the shirt had stuck to itself. When he went to straighten the shirt out, the shirt design came off of one side and stuck to the other, revealing bits of the brown sweatshirt material in the middle of where the design should be. I contacted Personal Creations customer service and they apologized, explaining that that should not have happened, and is not in line with the quality of their products. So they offered to send me a replacement item and this time around I was sent their personalized elmo toddler hoodie.
This is a product that is actually made by Personal Creations. I had it customized with my nephews name and seems how he wears 2t and 3t in most t-shirts, I thought I’d order a size bigger so that the hoodie would be a bit roomy on him. I should have known better, becuase I knew that he could still wear a lot of 24month shirts, so of course 4t would be too big. So the hoodie is rather big on him, but this is my fault and not the result of a sizing issue. Though most 3t shirts don’t appear to big on Drew, and this 4t is really big so I would say that even though it’s a hoodie, don’t order a size big to make it roomy – as they are already designed to be that “cozy hoodie” size for the regular size. Drew was really excited to see his pal Elmo on a hoodie. Of course, as a 2 year old he doesn’t recognize his name on the hoodie but for a slightly older child who knows their name, it would be neat. The quality of the design on the front of the hoodie feels much different than the other one did – the other one felt a bit sticky and thick – like it was attached to the sweater instead of part of it. The Elmo on the hoodie feels like it “belongs” on the hoodie and is not sticky at all. I’m really happy with this elmo hoodie and because it’s so big, it’ll last Drew for a few years which is awesome.
