I’m funny about showing my upper arms. I try to avoid sleeveless clothing if I’m going to be leaving the house. Here in Michigan, sometimes the summer days are so hot that it’s impossible to avoid but I don’t like it. While I don’t mind wearing short sleeved t-shirts, I won’t wear certain short sleeved tops that are designed to have a form fitting sleeve as I feel like they draw attention to my upper arm area which just isn’t flattering for me. I’m also one of those people who always seems to be cold even when everyone else feels comfortable. For these reasons, I was happy to hear about a company called Ch*armz.

Ch*armz offers two types of products that can help cover up your arms. Their regular Ch*armz are essentially long sleeves that aren’t attached to a shirt. The top of the sleeves has has a velcro strip that goes around your bra strap and sticks to itself to hold the sleeves in place. I can see myself wearing these to create a layered look under short sleeved shirts.

Their other product is the charmz ballerina shrug which is what I was sent for review. These are designed to cover your arms, shoulders and upper back. I thought this would be great for putting over tank tops and dresses that I have that are sleeveless. The ballerina shrugs come in three sizes. Size 1 fits up through a size 12. Size 2 is for sizes 12-16 and size 3 is for sizes 16+. Most of the time I wear a size small in tops, but occasionally I fit a medium instead and the size 1 fit me really well.

The material is thin, so it would be great for carrying along to cover up with at night when the temperature drops a little or for during spring where you want your arms covered but a big thick covering would be too warm. It also means that the ballerina shrugs snug your body nicely so you can wear them with a form fitting top or dress and not lose your shape.

The only thing I would like to change about the ballerina shrugs is how far the material comes down in front. When I paired the ballerina shrugs with some of my spaghetti strap tops and dresses, the skin between my armpit and chest was visible. Basically, any piece of clothing that allows that section of skin to show, it will also show with the ballerina shrug on. If you were wearing a sleeveless top that covered that area (such as the top i’m wearing above that has a small bit of fabric in this area, it wouldn’t be a problem. Unfortunately, most of my sleeveless tops and dresses are spaghetti straps or have small straps which results in them not covering this area of my body.

Even though I only have a couple of sleeveless tops with material in this area, it’s enabled me to wear a couple of my favorite tops all year round, making it very useful and valuable for me. Having one in black or white means it can be used with just about any color. I’d love to get a white one for during the spring when I tend to favor light colors over darker ones.
