I was very enthusiastic to get the chance to review some of Öko Creations products. Have you ever heard of Öko Creations? It is a family business dedicated to offering some of the best green textile products out there. They offer products for both babies, moms, moms-to-be and women in general. They have everything from face cloths, bibs, hankerchiefs, diaper bags, nursing pads and a lot more.
The two founders are sisters, Marie-Noël and Melanie, and all their products are designed and made in Quebec, Canada. The name ‘Öko’ comes from the German and means ‘eco’, a fitting name since all their products are made of organic cotton, hemp, organic merino wool and recycled polyester. They also make sure their dyes have low environmental impact. Even the paper used for packaging, business cards and advertisement material is recycled. The ‘eco’ mentality definitely goes beyond the products themselves and I respect companies that take their eco responsibilities seriously and try to reduce their impact on the planet. This is the type of businesses I choose to support!
For this review, I received many products to test out. First of all, I received an adorable Hooded Baby Bath Towel. It’s a generously sized towel (approximately 34 x 34 inches) made of high quality organic terry cotton. I’ve had 2-3 towels for my daughter since she was a baby, none of them organic and let me tell you, this hooded baby towel is like nothing you’ve ever touched! It’s plush and soft and I want to keep it to myself (no kidding!) It is by far the most gentle on baby skin and even after washing it many times, it remains super soft. I was planning on keeping it for Baby no. 2 but my daughter loves it so much I might have to purchase another one so they each have their own.
This bath towel is a natural cotton color so a little creamier, because it wasn’t bleached white. There is also a choice of cute decorative borders along the hooded corner and the other corners. I chose the Elephants pattern because it is gender neutral but they are all adorable. Now if they could make one big enough for me, that’d be awesome!
I also received a set of 5 Hemp Baby Wipes and a set of 4 Organic Cotton Baby Wipes. Both sets are a natural color with brightly colored trims. The pop of color make them cute and fun. The wipes are a good size (approximately 7.5 x 7.5 inches) and you can get the job done with just one wipe. They are really absorbent and wash well.
The Organic Cotton Wipes are made of the same fabric as the bath towel. I could use them for bath time but instead I chose the keep them in the kitchen because their thick and soft texture works wonders to clean my daughter’s face and hands after a meal. They are really absorbent so I can get them damp and get the job done quickly. She hates having her hands and face washed but at least I know I am using the softest wipes possible. Obviously, the fact that they replace paper towels and disposable wipes makes them even better.
The Hemp Wipes have a softer side with tiny loops and a more textured side with bigger loops in the fabric. They are thinner than the organic wipes and I love them for bath time. It’s easy to wash behind little ears, between fingers and toes, etc. One side is perfect for the face while the more textured side is great for feet and hands and belly, etc.
Both sets of wipes are very versatile. You could keep some in your diaper bag, use them around meal time or bath time, or when changing baby’s diaper, etc.
The last 2 items I received are a Mini Reusable Pad for Thongs and a Reusable Panty Liner. They are both made of 2 layers of hemp and thick cotton making them absorbent even though they are quite thin. The panty liner also has a waterproof breathable layer so you don’t have to worry about leaking through it. The top layer is very soft and is unbleached and undyed. It is best since it’s the part that will be against your skin. The fact that it is a completely natural fabric lowers the risk of infections and irritation due to exposure to chemicals. The back of the pads are made of different colorful fabrics and they are way prettier than disposables.
Both pads have wings and a snap closure (2 snaps for the mini pad for thongs) so they stay in place well. The mini pad for thongs the perfect shape you need when wearing a thong whereas the panty liner has a regular pad shape.
So far, I have used them for light incontinence. In case you didn’t know, having a baby push on your bladder will play tricks on you… Sneezing, jumping, laughing are just not the same. Sorry if that was TMI but that’s the truth.
They are really easy to care for. I just rinse them in cold water when I’m done and throw them in my daughter’s cloth diaper wet bag. I wash everything together. You can dry them in the dryer or let them air dry.
