Nutrisystem week 11 update

I have been provided with a Nutrisystem plan in exchange for sharing my honest experience and results on my blog. All opinions are my own.

Over the past week we’ve transitioned into wearing jeans and sweaters as the weather has turned cold here in Michigan. I dug into storage to find our winter clothing. We were excited to find Ryan’s winter clothing because he’s been wearing his jeans from last winter which were now clearly too big. Last winter he was wearing some 40’s and some 38’s, depending on the style/cut – he could wear 38’s in loose or baggy fits or 38’s for boot cut or other slimmer varieties. I knew that in storage he had 36’s that were loose/baggy cut and 38’s that were boot cut and thought those would fit now. Once we dug them out and he pulled on a few pairs, we quickly realized that while they were wearable, they required use of a belt and after a few hours of wear he had to tighten his belt even more as the fabric stretched out with wear. Of course, these were a big improvement from his bigger jeans which were almost unwearable even with a belt but we need to schedule some clothing shopping for him soon which is so exciting.

Right before starting Nutrisystem we had started buying some 2x shirts, but he was still able to wear some XL’s. He has seemed to loose a lot of belly first so within just a few weeks he was able to fit an XL well, and can now fit larges as well. So I knew that he had made a lot of physical change, but visually most of it appears to be in his upper body so realizing that he’s changed clothing sizes in jeans just as much as shirts was neat.

Realizing the clothing changes got me thinking about other non-scale victories. I tend to just share his weightloss progress and not the smaller details. Here are other non-scale victories that Nutrisystem has created:

  • He now feels comfortable wearing a short/thin beard. Previously he was keeping a long beard to hide the shape of his face a bit.
  • An understanding of some aspects of nutrition that we were ignorant about before this. For example, we both previously thought of fiber as something that helped the digestive system. We had no idea that like protein, it takes a while for your body to digest so it keeps you feeling fuller longer.
  • Understanding the difference between eating to not be hungry vs eating to be full. We were both raised thinking that the goal of eating was to get full. We now realizing that we don’t have to feel “full” to have eaten enough to avoid being hungry for 3-4 hours which is the ideal amount of time to put between meals and snacks.
  • Easier and more enjoyable workouts. Until a few months ago, we didn’t really work out at all. We started working out because Nutrisystem recommends 30 minutes of exercise per day and we wanted to fully embrace the program. I was surprised at how quickly we could workout longer and harder without getting as tired or sore as before. Even the first week of working out vs the second week was dramatically different and workouts continue to get easier and more enjoyable for us even though we are slowly increasing the intensity and length of our sessions.

This week Ryan lost another 2.5 pounds, bringing his total weight loss amount to 33.5 pounds! Next week will be the end of another month of Nutrisystem so we’ll be doing progress pictures again.

Are you working on losing weight or becoming more healthy? I’ve love to hear about your recent non-scale victories!

I’ve learned it’s more important to stay hydrated (will show up as gaining weight on the scale) than the scale number. I feel less hungry and have less chance of a headache when I’m well hydrated. I’m lightest in the morning but usually dehydrated then so I always keep that in mind.

So cool that he’s in smaller clothing! Going from a 2X to a Large is quite the difference. Yes, I’ve learned how to eat without the goal of being full and it has changed the way I eat significantly. I’ve also lost weight because of it. It’s funny how long we hold onto the messages we were taught as children. Good to know that we change always change them. 🙂
