I have been provided with  Nutrisystem meal plan. All opinions are my own.

It’s hard to believe that it’s now been four months since Ryan started Nutrisystem. I didn’t update about his progress for a couple of weeks because I wasn’t sure if I was continuing as a Nutrisystem blogger even though Ryan was interested in continuing the plan. During that time he didn’t weigh in regularly because we weren’t in the habit of doing so for the blog posts. Ryan got a flu-like bug about a week and a half ago when I did last week’s post so he wasn’t feeling well enough to weigh in. Then last week he had an appointment to have a couple of teeth pulled – this procedure was something he had put off for a long time and was really stressful for him. It would have been stressful by itself but dealing with having the teeth pulled after he was both physically and emotionally worn down from being sick just added to the situation. Plus, he had to eat a liquid diet for a day and a soft diet for a few days following the extractions. Nutrisystem has foods that fit into a soft diet such as their soups, chilis, muffins, french toast, pancakes and several others. However, primarily out of stress he decided to stop doing Nutrisystem for about three days partially to deal with the soft diet but more as an emotional reaction to the stress. Then to make things even harder, Ryan’s moms dog woke up blind (it seemed to literally happen overnight). She was old and had been in failing health (diabetic and having kidney issues) for about a year prior so her waking up blind and being highly reactive to any noises in her environment lead to Ryan’s mom deciding to have her put to sleep. Ryan’s mom was really attached to the dog so it was tough for her and she wanted Ryan to go along for emotional support and also to help physically seems how the dog was very large. So, the past two weeks have been an emotional roller-coaster to say the least.

Logically we know that sticking to an ideal diet all the time is best. I don’t want to make it seem like we think what happened was smart or okay. However, we are both aware that it was a temporary deicision and Ryan has since went back on Nutrisystem. He feels like falling “off the wagon” for a week or so helped open his eyes to how stress and emotions play into his views of food and will hopefully help him to be aware of those tendancies in the future. While we’ve had other stressful things happen since he began Nutrisystem four months ago, this was the first time that several issues arose right in a row and this is the first time that he broke away from the plan.

Ryan started back on Nutrisystem two days ago and weighed in today. His weight is exactly the same (220) as it was October 17th, the last time we had recorded his weight. I have to assume that he had gained weight during his time off Nutrisystem and then lost it again. While a loss is better, I am glad that even while ‘cheating’ with less nutritious foods that he didn’t go so overboard as to actually gain weight. This is the first week since tracking his weight weekly that he didn’t see a loss. I look forward to seeing next weeks results and being past this hiccup in his weight loss journey.

We had two non-scale victories this week. Ryan’s mom saw his ID (the photo for it was just taken in March of this year) and she was shocked at how different his face looks now vs in that photo. I also came across an old photo (I think from early summer) of Ryan sitting in his recliner with our pug Frank. I had just taken a photo of him and Frank in the same chair last month and had to make a collage to compare. Pretty crazy!
