Gold Paw Pugs outside

Gold Paw Series sent Stretch Fleece dog sweaters for my review. All opinions are my own.

It’s tough to keep my two pugs at a comfortable temperature. They get too cold and too hot easier than I do, so it seems like their range of comfortable temperatures is really slim. They shiver and shake when going outside before snow hits, and pant before Ryan & I feel the need to use fans or AC in the summer.

We try to keep our heat expenses down by not over-using heat in the winter which works well for us but it leaves our dogs a bit chilly in certain rooms of our house that don’t heat up as quickly as the other areas. We had dog coats and thick dog sweaters for the pugs but they would get too warm and start panting. I wanted a thinner sweater option for the pugs and thought Gold Paw Stretch Fleece might be the answer. These are stretchy fleece sweaters for dogs that are just a single layer of fleece so they go on easy and add a little extra warmth without being bulky or too restricting of movement.

Pugs are small dogs overall, but they tend to have large front shoulders which is often referred to as “barrel chested”, so some dog clothing designed for long, thin dogs won’t fit over my pugs’ shoulders. I used the size chart on Gold Paw Series and both of my dogs fit perfectly into the size 14 on the size chart. Instead of having a simple small, medium, large, XL etc chart they have size 2 up to size 30 in even numbers – that’s a lot of sizes. Plus, the material is stretchy so the odds of finding the perfect size for your dog is much higher. Frank is bigger than beans and I ordered the same size for their sweaters, but Frank’s fits better. Beans’ fits a bit more snug on her even though she’s smaller, but this is because she has a lot of excess skin that folds around her neck/shoulders so it causes bunching of the fabric.

I chose black for Frank and eggplant (purple) for Beans. The sweaters are thin fleece just like I expected. They simply have a neck-hole and leg-holes, so you slip the sweater over your dog’s head, pull through front paws through and you’re ready to go. The stretch fleece sweaters are ideal for keeping my dogs warm inside when we keep the heat a little lower or for going on walks on balmy days.

The Stretch Fleece are great for light protection, but if you’re looking for a thick sweater or coat check out the other products available at Gold Paw Series, they have a range of products for keeping Fido warm.
