I have a lot of siblings who are quite a bit older than I am. As a little kid I remember wanting to grow up so that I could go to the movie theater like they did. They seemed to look forward to seeing movies so much and always came back in such great spirits. I was so excited when I finally got to go to the movies for the first time, and we were going to go as a whole family. The movie was supposed to be for all ages but it wound up being boring for the adults and teenagers and confusing for me. That first experience was so boring for me that I didn’t realize how fun going to the movie theater could be until I was in middle school. Now when I hear Ryan talk about how he loved seeing movies at the theater when he was a little kid I feel like I really missed out simply because we accidentally picked an ill-fitting movie for my first one.
All of this to say, it’s important to choose a child-friendly movie for kids to make their early experiences great ones. Seeing a very child-friendly movie also has the added benefit of not having content that is too mature for your kid. With trailers so easy to access online now, you can show trailers to your child to see if it seems to grab their attention or not. I have been reading about Norm of The North, a movie with a PG rating that looks exciting and silly but also has a sweet message. Norm of The North is about a sweet polar bear who visits NYC to try to keep his home from being taken over by developers. Of course, a polar bear in NYC is out-of-place but Norm makes the best of it showing kids that standing on your own doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It also highlights adventure and positive risk taking in a brave light which is a message that children nervous about trying anything new can take to heart.

I showed Drew (age 5) the trailer and he laughed at a few of the jokes so I am excited to take him to see it in theater. He is not a shy kid but he sometimes gets discouraged when trying new things and not being great at them right away. I think the movie will be a nice message for him in showing that it’s okay to try new things even if you make a few mistakes at first. He’s had a few big changes in his life recently including getting a new sibling, losing his first baby tooth and learning how to read, so I know the concept of new experiences is a big theme in his life right now. He’s also gotten really interested in dancing thanks to a few really popular songs that the kids at his school sing and dance to. I think the arctic shake part will appeal to him. Check out Norm doing the arctic shake in the video below.
We were sent an activity book which I used to get Drew a bit more engaged with the idea of Norm of The North. He had never played tic tac toe before so it was fun to show him how to play. The activity book is available for download on the Norm of The North website along with other printable activities that can help introduce your kids to Norm and get excitement going before heading to the theater.
Visit the Norm Of The North website to learn more about the movie or see the trailer.

I would love to watch this movie with the kids since I missed it when it came out earlier. I’ve not used Fandango for movies but they seem to be really popular and have some nice discounts.

Great giveaway but first movie trailer wouldn’t play 🙁
