The last 5-10 years, I’ve seen an increase in parents asking extended family members to consider gifting experiences to their kids rather than toys. Things like a trip to the zoo, or swim classes, or a trip to a museum or the movies. A lot of families feel that they have more toys and “stuff” than they really have room for, and that their kids are more likely to really remember and appreciate experiences rather than “stuff”.
In a lot of cases, this applies to adults as well! While we’re all grateful for anyone who thinks to give us any gift at all, I don’t think it’s uncommon for adults to be gifted items they don’t really want or won’t really end up using. Whether it’s being given a pair of gloves that are too small, candles that aren’t a preferred scent, or another mug when your mug cabinet is already bursting at the seams…we’ve all been there! Smiling and genuinely saying thank you to the person who thought of us, while also wondering how long we should keep this item to “be polite” before donating it or regifting it. Nobody wants to unintentionally put their loved ones in that spot of gracefully accepting a gift they won’t use. Experience gifts are a great way to avoid that. Especially from WonderBox, because these don’t expire!

If your loved one lives near a major city or you know they’re visiting one soon, you can find some sets that are specific to towns like Chicago, New York City or Miami. I have someone in my family who is a real movie buff, so they might be getting movie theater gift cards from someone else as well. I love knowing that even if they get 5+ movie theater gift cards, the one i’m gifting them will never expire so they stand no chance of this gift going unused. I also love how WonderBox pairs snacks and even candy with some of their bundles. I know that one of my family members usually just gets popcorn and a soda, yet the gift set I’m giving them includes candy. This is a way to let them treat themselves a little extra to make the experience more special.
I also like how some of the options allow for a lot of flexibility. For example, the SpaFinder set gives them a $150 value to use at over 1,000 locations available on SpaFinder and it can be used for a variety of services including massage, mani-pedi, sauna deep tissue massage, stone massage and more. This way, you don’t have to know exactly what type of massage or other service they would prefer. You can simply give them the gift of a spa day and let them decide the details based on what works best for them.
I also love how if you order a little bit in advance, you can select a physical gift card and box. Maybe I’m a little old-fashioned, but I much prefer giving a physical gift card over a gift card code. WonderBox offers both, so you can choose either way. I opted for physical gift sets so that I can wrap these and give them to my recipients this holiday season. I just really enjoy being able to wrap somethign for them. However, I also love that the electronic option is available because that makes it perfect for really last-minute gifting!
