I have been provided with a Nutrisystem plan in exchange for sharing my honest experience and results on my blog. All opinions are my own.
I mentioned in my Nutrisystem Advice For Newbies post that I recommend ordering one of every menu item over the course of your first few orders. The first month, Ryan ordered foods that felt the ‘safest’ to him. In other words, he only ordered the menu items that he was pretty confident he would enjoy. However, in additional orders he tried new items that he wasn’t sure he would like, that once tasted he liked more than the ‘safe’ items!
I thought today I would share a few of Ryan’s favorite Nutrisystem entrees that he didn’t really expect to like. Prior to Nutrisystem, Ryan was not a fan of chicken or turkey. He found most meals using those meats to be really bland and boring. Most of the surprise Nutrisystem favorites that Ryan discovered have either chicken or turkey in them!
Surprise lunch favorites:
Tortilla soup: This has black beans, corn, peppers and rice as the main ingredients and it has a really nice spicy kick to it. Not bland at all.
White Bean Chicken Chili: Ryan loves chili, but had never had chicken chili or white bean chicken chili so this was a risk in a few ways. However, this chili has a nice kick of flavor that makes it one of Ryan’s favorite lunches.
Southwest Fiesta Melt: This has a few ingredients in common with the tortilla soup including rice, black beans and corn. It also has cheese that Ryan enjoys. Ryan likes all of the Nutrisystem “melts” but this southwest one is his favorite.
Surprise dinner favorites:
Chicken pot pie. This one stood out to me because I love chicken soup and chicken pot pie is really not that different from chicken soup in my opinion. However, Ryan was usually a fan of chicken. However this comes with a spicy flavor kick that makes it interesting enough that Ryan loves to order this one.
Vegetarian chili. Ryan had never had vegetarian chili, and the idea of taking the meat out of chili sounds like it might make it more bland but that isn’t the case with this chili. It has a nice flavor despite being vegetarian.
Last is the mushroom and onion stuffed chicken breast. Ryan likes all of the stuffed chicken breasts that Nutrisystem offers which was a surprise. The fact that they’re stuffed adds a lot of flavor. Ryan doesn’t care for juicy meat so he also likes how the breading on these makes them easier to dry out via overcooking (which he does on purpose). This is the only Nutrisystem entree that Ryan cooks in the oven and they do take a long time to cook to his liking but he likes the flavor enough that it’s worth the wait in his opinion.
Are you on Nutrisystem? What are your favorite entrees?

In my opinion most food that has good herbs & spices will be yummy.

I imagine they would have to make the food interesting and with lots of flavour to keep the consumer wanting more! I had to reread the part where you said he doesn’t like juicy meat (what!!) I have never met anyone that likes dried out meat that is what makes it tough and yuck..lol

I’ve heard good results with this program but it’s just not for me. I find Weight Watchers a better program for me.

I would like to try NutriSystem out. Your review reaffirms that I should try it out.

All the entries sound good. I would expect to see a lot of chicken. I am surprised there isnt more pork or fish . The meat thing was interesting that he prefers it all dry. Now, I couldnt eat it like that but then again, if he likes it that way he does. Maybe it is a texture thing!

I’d eat those soups any day of the week!

His choices are very interesting. It looks like he likes spicy. I don’t understand the dry meat… I like juicy but I am not on the program… he is. I know you are so proud of his progress, I am.

I do think I would love the Tortilla soup. I always can enjoy a cup of soup especially in the winter. All of these choices look terrific.

I’m one to stay with safe foods too that work with my stomach since I have so many digestive problems. I’ve found if a food is too bland, different herbs, spices and vinegars can be added, without affecting the nutritional value. I love trying new vinegars especially and think any of these Nutrisystem foods would work with these seasonings. I’m not a ketchup or mustard person either but those both have salt and sugars–not usually great for dieters.

These are such great options! I love the healthy choices. I’d first like to try the Tortilla soup! Sounds delicious!

Mmm!! They all sounds great to me!! I can see why they would be a surprise love for a guy though 😉 If he’s anything like my hubby he’s turned off by almost anything that looks or sounds healthy lol!! Although my hubby is a huge pot pie fan so I think he would’ve loved that one right from the start!!
