Teasure Hunters peril at the top of the world

I partnered with Treasure Hunters & MomSelect on this post and was compensated. All opinions are my own.

There are so many books that I read during my childhood that create a stir of butterflies in my belly. Several years into my relationship with Ryan, really late one night we got talking about picture books that we enjoyed as a child. He mentioned how he was really attached to the book Harold And The Purple Crayon when he was little. I gasped and my dropped as my heart started racing. “Me too! Oh my gosh I LOVED that book.” It had to fight back happy tears. Maybe it was in part because it was late and I was tired but it amazed me that something so simple could make me so happy.

Books were special to me as a young child, but I struggled to enjoy reading my preteen and early teen years. The books I was assigned at school just didn’t catch my eye and I started to think I just didn’t like books anymore. Thankfully a trip to the library where I was able to choose books of my own showed me that I did still love books. I just had to find the genre that I enjoyed.

Now that Jorden is in that age range where I stopped liking books, I’ve been conscious of trying to support her in continuing to enjoy reading. I try to make sure that she’s introduced to a variety of book styles so she knows that there are endless options out there.

Teasure Hunters by James Patterson is a series of adventure books aimed at kids 8 to 12 years old. Like many kids, Jorden has always been interested in twins. She was only about three when she realized twins existed and from then on she would carry around two baby dolls, or two ponies and insist they were twins. Teasure Hunters involves twins so that grabbed my attention right away as something she might like. We haven’t been able to travel much at all and Jorden likes watching YouTube channels about kids who live in other parts of the world. So the travel aspect stood out to me as another sign that these might be a great fit for her. I was excited to start reading Treasure Hunters Peril At The Top Of The World with her. She liked how the twins’ names (Bick & Beck) go together so well. She mentioned that the books reminded her of the movie Spy Kids a little bit because the parents used to be spies and the kids get to assist in finding the bad guys in both stories. Her favorite part was how funny the twins are. They scheme together just like she would want to do if she had a “double”. The story line includes twists and turns that help keep the story interesting and to keep kids wanting to turn the next page.

Many of the pages have small sketches that have a comic book style to them that would probably appeal to kids who enjoy comics. While Jorden doesn’t have a particular interest in comics the illustrations have a little comedy involved which she appreciated. I also think for kids in this age range it’s nice to have little graphics to break up the text a bit as it makes books feel a little less daunting especially for resistant readers.

I made a small video with Jorden, having her describe what the book was about and a little bit of her feelings on the story.

We haven’t finished the book yet but I know we will because it’s held her interest really well so far. I’m excited that this is part of a series so we can move on to other books in the series once she’s done.

If you have a child in the 8-12 age range check out the Treasure Hunters series for fun, educational and funny adventure books that you can enjoy together.

I love the comic illustrations too and still love adventure books, shows, and movies to this day. This looks like a great book to hold a child’s interest at this age, which is not the easiest thing to do!

  • These look like such clever books. I have them wish listed because I don’t think Alysia is ready yet.

These books sound nice and would make a good gift. I was always into reading, from a young age, and still am, and I think it is a good pastime. I try to read mostly non-fiction now. It is amazing how hearing a fav from when you were young can trigger strong emotions, it shows how lasting reading can be.

  • OH thanks. My son is starting school this next week and we are always looking for new books to read. It one sounds like it would be fun for a 5 year old.

James Patterson is truly a good author. His style is interesting enough to keep kids and adults entranced. I am happy to see he has created this book and is thrilling younger readers. Reading is a lifelong past time and one that can be enjoyed anytime almost anywhere.

My son would love to read this one. I’m betting my daughter would too. She’s 17 but she’ll pick up anything and read it (just like her mama). 😉

  • I always recommend educational books for kids to all the parents because such books allow kids to learn and understand things in a better way. Really good review
